Went down to the squadron last night for another parade night, to be met with a dissapointing turnout. The past 3 weeks have been going quite well, with an average of about 25 on parade each night. Last night that dropped to 12. Hopefully its just down to the fact that the schools around here are now on half term and they havent realised we stay open through the holidays, and not anything else. Did some drill instruction with some of the brand new cadets. Some of them are really keen and are obviously trying really hard to impress me (and succeeding!) but one or two are either a bit on the slow side, or just cant be bothered. After that I took the senior cadets for a lesson on aircraft maitenance. Some pretty complicated stuff (especially the MOD form 700) but I think they grasped the principles. I do enjoy instructing.
Went Fencing this afternoon. Due to John's injury (and his Masters Degree) he's not going to be available for next weeks match against Exeter University. This means (what with no other Epeeists available) Im going to have to fill in for him. Im already on the team fencing Foil, and now have to do Epee as well. So today's session was focusing mainly on Epee. Im a little rusty with it (keep trying to fence it just like foil) but my first two matches went well. Admitadely they were against "Red Alert" and Ed (who arent exactly on the good side) but they do train on the weapons. I beat them both by comfortable margins (15-7 and 15-9). Went on to fence Steve and then Hannah. Steve ive selected (as is my job as Team Captain) to fence Foil and Epee for the team already. Although I can beat him at Foil, he does a lot more Epee than I do, I ended up losing to him 13-15. The bout with Hannah was even closer, going right up to 14-14, and then I stuffed up my final attack, leaving Hannah with the final point, 15-14. Afterwards she pointed out that apparently I always look at where im about to attack (well duh!) so all she was doing was watching my face, and then working out where I was about to try and hit her. Not sure how to try and fix that...
