Mega Man 2.5D

Fascinating stuff here!

A lot of people have taken some rather cheap, and, I think rather ill-informed shots at past attempts to bring the Mega Man franchise into 3D (I make no bones whatsoever about my great fondness for the Mega Man Legends series, including the prequel, The Misadventures of Tron Bonne). Nevertheless, I am, I think, largely in ( Read more... )

Well, I am as well. Inspiration comes and goes, as does my interest in this sort of communication. But I always feel happier when I'm in the mood to do so than when I'm not.

I remember seeing this trailer quite a while ago through some videogaming blogsite that's now dead and I distinctly remember reading somewhere that this is in fact a fake trailer, like all those fake movie trailers you see everywhere these days. These guys don't actually have a game at all, but rather wanted to make a neat movie about the premise. This is sad.

I'll have to look into it and see if I can't confirm it either way.

I've seen plenty of fake trailers for would-be video games as well, so I woudln't be too surprised if it turned out this was one. I admit I didn't look into it too deeply. Whatever you find in your investigation, do let me know.

Well, it's hard to tell. Sjøstrand's own site is temporarily down and anywhere else on the net I seem to be getting two vibes from people:

- Mostly it's: "HOLY FUCK THIS IS GONNA BE AWESOME"

- But sometimes it's "Hey, this dude is just an animator so I'm guessing he just animated this and it's not real."

I was unable to find a "Actually, I know for certain that this is/isn't real." so I can only assume it's just fake trailer for now. This is what makes sense anyhow, seeing as from all that stuff we can see in the trailer you'd think there'd be a playable demo by now.

Although, and this is quite flimsy because my memory is awful, I think I remember reading a disclaimer at Sjøstrand's site Where he confirmed the fakeness of the trailer. Who knows, maybe the site-changing means he found a programmer to work with?

I honestly believe that if they were to make their own game with original music and sprites, no one would even look at it.

It would have to be massively marketed as a new IP and hyped up.

With "a new spin on an old favorite", it is fucking genius.

I think on some level it depends on whether or not they could produce music and sprites which even approach the level of quality of the old Mega Man material. In all liklihood, they would not be able to do so; after all, the professionals are so for a reason, and Mega Man 2 and 3 in particular are sort of timeless classics. In that case, you're almost certainly right ( ... )
