Wednesday morning is upon us once more, and so with it comes that most sacred of traditions: Share the Wealth Wednesday!

For those of you who are new here, and for those whose memories do not extend back as far as the murky depths of pre-history from which this practice emerges (by which I mean two weeks ago), every Wednesday, we post some neat ( Read more... )

I do most of my link posting at kimchi kommunity, check out the recently posted link to fumiko's confession for example.

That second link was pretty awesome, although a little creepy because that's basically the exact content of a recurring dream I have (the steadily-ramping-up uncontrollable careening through the air bit, anyways).

Man, you'd think that kids growing up in a mountain town like that would learn as a survival tactic to never, ever move downhill quickly, if this is a likely outcome!

On the other hand, there seems no ill consequences to doing so, so maybe not.

This person is attempting to polish her nails a different way EVERYDAY for a year. So far they look really interesting. 8D

I discovered Canabalt not too long after I made last week's contribution through http://www.actionbutton.net (It's 31st on their top-games ever list). You control a guy somewhat. He runs and he runs, faster and faster. You can jump or you can not jump. Or you can jump just a bit.

http://canabalt.com/

The trick is to know when you want to crash into boxes so you can slow down.

Awesome widescreen version to be found here:

http://adamatomic.com/canabalt/

It's apparently sold for the iPhone, and if I had one I'd be all over that shit.

I'm gonna check out those Venture Bros now. I've only seen a bit of it but I loved that.

I gave that a few tries when I first found a link to it, and it does indeed have a great deal of class. I hadn't considered using the boxes that way, but it seems obvious in retrospect. I will have to give it another try.

I always dig blogs like this, where people post daily progress on some long-term project, allowing you to follow it more or less in real time.

Not really relevant to my interests, for obvious reasons, but nevertheless objectively neat!

Okay, folks, prepare yourselves for this one. I must warn you that the awesomeness contained within this next link could cause irreparable damage to those who have not taken appropriate precautions. Thus, without explanation or further warning, I bring you: http://www.flickr.com/photos/87258185@N00/sets/72157603724213121/

Robo-cop on a unicorn!

It's clearly been around for a little while, but I just found it this week, so there you go. Clearly, this is now on my "to-draw" list. Sadly, there are relatively few examples here, but I haven't gone searching to see if there is a more comprehensive collection.

I always love galleries like this one; a single subject matter done by various artists and each with their own take on it.

There's a guy out there called "the cliff guy" who goes around to comic book conventions and gets different comic artists to draw something having something to do with cliffs for his collection and puts them all on his online gallery. Another guy does the same thing with silverfish as his subject matter. This is the most specific one I've ever seen.

Though I have occasionally mused about the idea of starting one of "Spider-Man fucking Gwen Stacey's corpse", I wonder if my attempt at humour at the expense of Spider-Man fans might be mistaken for the genuinely creepy fetishism of Kirk Boxlightner, AKA K-Box, AKA Box in a Box (google any of these names plus Spider-Man if you dare!)

Well, you're clearly thinking more about this than I am. I only went as far as "Robo-cop on a unicorn? That's awesome!".

As for the Spider-man idea, I'm pretty sure I don't get it. I mean, I get that you want to confuse and enrage the fans. But why the corpse? There's some bit of trivia I'm missing isn't there?

I have not had the opportunity to look up this Box individual. I have too much work and it will have to wait until the weekend. *sigh*

Well, since you brought up adult swim...

I guess I would have to contribute with The Mountain Goats

This is a band I discovered while realizing that the adult swim series Moral Orel was much much more than a simple parody of Davey and Goliath, but was more a plasticine depiction of hypocrisy, existential despair, loneliness, and hope in spite of it all.

Orel's creator, Dino Stamatopoulis, used several of this band's songs in episodes, and they sounded so relevant, fuck, I thought they were written for the show, but no, they were from one of their concept albums from years ago, Tallahassee.

I'll leave you to investigate them on your own, but I want to at least post the lyrics to "no children", which was featured on the episode "numb". Just to give you a taste.

I hope that our few remaining friends ( ... )

I found, to my disapointment, that their only good songs were the three we heard in season 3 of Moral Orel, but those three were very, very good.

But then, it could just be a question of context; I often like music more for the connection it has with something I like than any intrinsic value it has. It's difficult for me to separate the two sometimes.

aw, that's a shame. So far, I myself havent heard anything except the songs from the show. It's possible I may share your sentiment.

However, I do still want to check out the rest of Tallahassee, if only for the premise of the concept album itself. In addition, because of the fact that it is a concept album, there is a good probability that the other songs may be of equal caliber. Their repertoire is huge, so I would think it could be hit or miss, since apparently they have evolved quite a bit.

Besides, the overall plot sounds wonderful. (two drunks in a loveless marriage. Instead of breaking up, they decide to see who drinks themselves to death first. The story ends with the house catching on fire and they both burn to death.)

Were any of the songs that you heard from that album?

I am late to the party. BUT. I did just see this and it cracked me up, so.

I'd seen one or two of these videos in the past, but didn't know it was an ongoing feature. I'll be checking this out later.

Mind you, if I need an internet meme explained to me in an amusing manner, my first stop is always encyclopedia dramatica. They're always mean, but they're alao always right.

I had no idea Encyclopedia Dramatica did information on internet memes. Nor did I realize I've been pronouncing meme wrong.

You do if you've spent your day well!

Incidentally, are you familliar with the background of the term and concept? The internet useage of the word "meme" is strictly speaking correct, though limited in scope. I wrote a bit about this a couple of years back...
