Everybody stinks (except for you, the person reading this).

So, things have gone down more or less as expected. The meeting of the strata council came and went, and I was not invited to speak in my own defense. But as it turns out, this is a moot point, as it was not I who needed defending ( Read more... )

Oh, cripes. I'm sorry to hear that. Kind of expected, but still shitty. I recommend you look into some of the advice in my last comment - I still don't think they can kick you out for something someone else did, so you should find out. The Strata Council's not the be-all and end-all of the law.

If you do have to move, I suppose you could see it as a fresh start of sorts. A new place, no bed bugs, no Vince - shedding of your old life and start anew. Like me: today I finally got a hair-cut (other than trims), losing my pony-tail of some ten years. A fresh start. Only with hair, and not apartments. Thereby making my attempt to console you with positive likening to my own state completely irrelevant!

Good luck, though.

Pah. I havenakt had a haircut in seventeen years. You got nothing on me there.

But you know what? Like I said, my landlord was already thinking of selling the place, so my time here was finite, regardless. Besides which, fighting to stay in a place where I would be at war with my neighbors is not a prospect which pleases me. They've always been on my ass. There is appeal in getting away from them. I resent the imposition and I resent the expense, but I agree that seeing this as a fresh start is a good idea, and one which I am cleaving to.

Oh, if your neighbours were cocks, then I definitely agree it's a good opportunity. Perhaps even to find a place by yourself, with no one else to have to worry over! No clue what the state of housing is like there, but I hope it won't be too hard to find a new place.

Let's just hope your landlord doesn't try and make you pay for advertising or rent after you move, since here they have legal recourse to ask for a percentage of advertising, and full rent, until they get a new tenant in, the place sells or your lease ends.

I'm not sure that applies if they kick you out. That only applies if you leave early in your lease.

(Although, I only know Ontario law in this regard, not BC, and I know they're not identical, see rules on pets for example)
