Eleventh Hour

I was really hoping it would be better than Fringe (aka The Adventures of Crazy Dr. Walt), but sadly, its not.

I really wanted to look forward to a weekly dose of Marley Shelton.

I watch Fringe for Dad and Peter's interactions. I need to watch Eleventh Hour tonight though and Life on Mars which has me worried about divergence from the original.

I haven't watched Life of Mars yet, but I have it DVR'ed. Nor did I watch the original.

one review I read though said that the U.S. pilot is almost a shot for shot remake of the UK original. Since I have seen neither yet, I can't say whether that's accurate or not.

I'm a big fan of the BBC version and my main issue will be that it went 17 episodes before it ended (and resolved the story) and I'm curious how the American version is gonna handle that since it will obviously go much longer (one hopes).

Depending on how they want to handle the cause of the time travel, it seems to me like they could easily stretch it out over the course of a few seasons.

They'd have to divert heavily from the reason given in the original series to do that...which would be a very drastic change. I'm gonna give it a few episodes to see what they do with it - who knows, they could hit gold with it by changing the reason which would give the show some good solid longevity.

My understanding was that he's in a coma and dreaming it all in the UK series. It seems to me like a coma could go on a long, long time.

But that's based on wikipedia, not always the most accurate source.

Nope...you got it right. At the end, he jumps off a building to get back. Sequel called Ashes to Ashes has someone investigating his suicide who gets hit and ends up in 1981 with the same characters.

If they draw the coma thing out, they're gonna need to do a good job to keep interest going. The only issue I had with the BBC was towards the end, the story was slipping.

Wow, that is one f'ed up ending.

But still, it seems to me like you could get a lot of mileage out of a procedural set in the '70's. I guess it depends on how much emphasis is on the coma vs. how much is put on the crime fighting.
