Thought

His lies on his bed and he tries not to think.

His eyes trace the lines of the ceiling, curving into the darkness, high above his head and he tries not to think about the letter, the parting words of a woman he’d barely known, tucked away in his drawer.

He tries not to think about her at all. Tries not to imagine the way her face would have changed as he’d shown her the stars. Tries not to dream about the warmth of another body filling his bed.

He tries not to think about things he should never want.
