Love, Joy, and Upgrades

Chris came over long ago with a bag of ram. (4 Megabyte SIMM's!) Now, when I say a bag, I mean an anti-static lunch bag full of them. They happen to be the same physical size as the ones in my beautiful NeXT machine. (You might remember I posted a picture of the motherboard previously.) I tried plugging in a few random sticks and no luck.

The NeXT was unconcerned. "Dude, you put in ghay memory," It told me, "Like, fix slot nine if you want, I'm going to boot anyway."

Finally I had the bright idea to take out a stick and replace it with one of mine, in fact I found one with matching chip numbers. Viola! That one worked. I slap in four more (Why over do it?) and I'm suddenly up by 16 megabytes.

What was it before? 12mb? 16? 8? Can't remember. So if fiddle around some more. Turns out all the sticks are good! They just have to be installed in quartettes! I throw down an unholy scourge of RAM triage upon the oxidized 1mb chips installed and replace them with sixteen 4mb sticks. Mmmm sixteen times four.

Here's the end result.

Then we celebrated!!! I tried calling his daddy, but Alex's number had changed.

Oh and tumblejenn home!
