I’ve had such a great birthday weekend, the joy
having
stretched from Thursday through this morning without a doubt. On Saturday we checked out a few galleries in
Chelsea, followed by dinner
and an
amazing Broadway show that I would recommend to anyone.
We saw Sarah Jones’s “Bridge & Tunnel,”
and though I knew of Sarah Jones when I lived in Kalamazoo, from her
recording “Your
Revolution” which was censored by the FCC (and later reversed, when she
took
them to court), I didn’t know what a truly incredible performer she was
until
Saturday night. On
Sunday the birthday indulgence continued
when K made me gingerbread pancakes from scratch (!) and we went to get
massages, and then spent the rest of the day sleeping.
Thanks to everyone who called or e-mailed me over the past
few days, it made me smile every time.
Today Kristin’s at home for MLK
day, and I wish that I was in bed along side her because it’s freezing
in my
office. We had an interesting
conversation on the train about how comfortable our life is here. I’ve always thought we’d move back to the Midwest
eventually, because I miss my family so much and can’t imagine truly
settling
here, where we’ll probably never be able to afford a house. K’s enjoying New York
more than I ever imagined, which is fantastic but which also throws all
of my
assumptions about our future askew. Now
Kira’s talking about a potential move that could make life even more
exciting,
so I suppose I’ll just stop trying to plan my life so far in advance.
If you haven’t heard already, Liberia
has elected the
first
female president of any African nation and Chile
also has its first female leader. I
think that MLK would be proud.
