Came to a conclusion recently. When asked, I tend to tell people that I'm shy. If I know them better, I'll say that I'm reserved.
Neither of these are truly accurate.
I'm a big fan of accuracy in words - connotations, nuances, implications. Therefore...
I am not shy.
I am not withdrawn.
I am not antisocial.
I am not even reserved.
The best word to describe this aspect of me is guarded.
...
Heavily guarded.
