She smiled somewhat timidly. "I'd forgotten how good you were at reading people," Bethany said. "I'd love to see him again if it's not too much trouble."

Alice chuckled. "Sorry," she said. "Decisions, outcomes - sometimes they're hard to ignore," she tapped the side of her head almost absently. "Things are a bit... cloudy, at the moment, though," she said with a frown. "There's all sorts of people here and, things only just started becoming clear..."

She grinned wickedly. "But it's no trouble, I'm sure. I'm sure he'll be happy to see you," she added. "He's been... missing Rose, I think. She hasn't been summoned."

Alice wondered if she should bother adding a 'yet' onto that - it was pretty unlikely at this point that she would be summoned anyway - but... it was cruel to say that she wasn't going to be summoned.

She shrugged, heading off at a slightly faster than human pace in the general direction of the town, searching for Emmett.

"That's a shame," Bethany said, trying to sound as if she meant it. But she had never been fond of Rosalie, and not just for obvious reasons. The other vampire was always irritated with something to the point of being obnoxious, and Bethany didn't mind that the blond wasn't there.

She did smile once Alice took off running and couldn't see her expression--even if she would probably sense it--before she ran after the other vampire.

Emmett was in the process of rather gleefully felling a tree in the mountains. He's already wrestled a bear for his lunch and was just generally in a good mood now that his strength was restored. Grinning widely, he heaved on the tree, watching with satisfaction as it toppled, taking a couple lesser trees with it.

Dusting off his hands as if he'd really exerted himself, he stepped back to view his handiwork.

Alice led Bethany at a relatively steady pace to the base of the mountain, where the sounds of trees falling were evident - Bethany could find her own way from here if she so chose. Alice grinned lightly, turning to the other - assuming she was still following - and gesturing up the mountain when/if she slowed.

"He's up there," she said, her tone betraying her amusement. "Want me to come along with you? Or would you rather meet him on your own?" she asked, eyes sparkling.

She could always go look up Jasper, after all. See how he was handling things.

Bethany had followed, and she smiled at Alice's question. "You already know the answer to that," the vampire pointed out. "Thank you, Alice. I really appreciate it. I'm sure I'll see you later." She gave her friend a smile before turning away from her.

She started up the mountain somewhat slowly, taking in Emmett's familiar scent. It had been years, but she still remembered it. Bethany watched him for a moment before finally speaking up--the fact that she could so easily sneak up on him had always been the only weakness he had around her. Her stealth was almost her own vampire gift in some ways.

"Hi," she said quietly. It was spoken at nearly a whisper, but his keen senses would pick up on it.

Emmett turned when he heard her voice, the grin spreading wider across his face.

"Hey," he returned, "You just get here? Nah, don't answer that; of course you did. How's it going? I haven't seen you in ages."

He moved toward her, bridging the distance. Not that they'd need to shout to hear each other, but there was still no need for it. Vaguely, he wondered how Rosalie would take this, but she wasn't here, so ... no problem, right?

And suddenly she felt a little shy, even though she knew him. "Yes," she said, answering anyway. "I sort of...woke up here. It was weird." She paused, then added, "You uh...you look good." Not that a vampire would age, but Bethany thought he had kept his looks particularly well. Then again, she was biased. "Alice told me where to find you." She glanced over at the trees, then back at him, "Keeping busy?"

Emmett looked at the trees, and grinned rather sheepishly.

"Nah," he countered, "I'm just in a tree-shoving mood. We had a bit of Chaos yesterday and I was strengthless, so needless to say I felt the need to shove some things around now that I've gotten it back."

He shoved his hands into his pockets, less inclined to fell things now that he had company.

"You were strengthless?" Bethany asked, find that almost impossible to imagine. "That must have been chaotic." She paused, then added quietly, "Alice told me most of your family is here." Most. That was the very important keyword in her statement.

Emmett chuckled.

“Chaotic,” he agreed, “Or depressing. I nearly started mooning about like Edward.”

He rolled his eyes, displaying precisely what he thought of that idea.

“And yeah, mostly everyone’s here,” he ventured, “Except Rose, Esme and Carlisle.”

He shrugged; he wasn’t too worried about who was and wasn’t here. Though it was mildly interesting that Rosalie wasn’t here and Bethany was.

"I don't think anyone is capable of being as broody as Edward," Bethany pointed out. "Especially now that he has a mortal pet...well until she's finished turning, I guess. Is Bella as dull and weak as the rumors make her out to be?" She'd only ever heard of the girl, a mortal who followed Edward around like some lost little puppy. It was no surprise she'd somehow found her way to this plane of existence with Edward as well.

"She's a riot," he replied, "I've never seen someone trip over so many things. If there's a way to hurt herself, she'll find it. But ... she makes a pretty good vampire when she's done."

He supposed that needed some amount of explanation, though.

"Edward, Bella and Alice were pulled here from before she was turned," he offered, "Jasper and I were taken from afterward."

"Nah," he said, waving that off, "We're only about a year ahead of the others. A lot of things have happened, but time-wise, only a year. 2008? Something like that."

Of course, in that year, they'd managed to turn Bella into a campire, and she'd had Renesme, but that was hardly the point. It had still only been a year, and he wasn't that much older.
