"Bella would be Edward's pet?" Bethany asked. She'd heard of the infamous Bella after the incident with Victoria. Word spread fast. "Has he turned her yet?" She carefully kept the subject away from Emmett so as to not seem too eager.

Turning. Ah, the question of the day. "We're in the process," she said with a slow nod. "There was - ah - an accident yesterday. She was bitten in the process." She neglected to say by whom, though Jasper's bloodstained eyes would be obvious when she saw them. "I don't believe Edward would have turned her so quickly," she frowned. "He was a tad stubborn in that regard."
She did wonder if she was saying too much, but she reasoned it would come out eventually. And it wasn't as though it were a completely stranger she was revealing it to either.

"Because you and your family still don't feed on humans?" she concluded. It was the one point she had always argued with Emmett--while the Cullens stuck to animals, Bethany preferred people. They just tasted better.
"So if Edward didn't turn her, who did? I know it couldn't have been you," Bethany commented. She could already tell by the way Alice spoke of her that she cared for the girl.

She ran a tongue over her lips a few times, reluctant to admit it out loud, before she let out an exhale. The eyes meant it wasn't much of a secret. But she certainly wasn't admitting without an explanation.
"We're at war?" she said, to confirm that they were on the same page. "So we were attacked yesterday. Pure chaos. It made everyone act..." she frowned. "Differently. Jasper..." she sighed. "Had no control. At least, not over his..."
She sighed. "I was distracted," she muttered. "But I managed to stop before he killed her, which would have been disastrous." She glanced over sharply. "It wasn't his fault." She wanted to be clear on that point. Not that she thought Bethany would question it, she was just quick on the defence today.

"I get it," Bethany assured her. She knew Jasper well enough to know he would never do such a thing of his own free will. At least not someone considered family as Bella was rumored to be. "Everything's back to normal now though? Aside from the obvious affects of the venom that is."

She sobered a bit. "Bella's changing, obviously, and I believe we suffered one casualty in addition to that..." she wondered if she was insensitive for not mentioning that upfront just because it hadn't been someone she knew. "But other than that..." she said, trailing off, wondering what else there was to say.
She smiled a bit. "It usually isn't this... bad," she said. "Things can be good here. We had Christmas the other day, if you can believe it," she said, as if that somehow made up for everything that had gone wrong.

Bethany laughed. "I can. This place seems capable of anything." She paused before asked, "Can I see the others? It's been so long..." Which translated basically to 'can you take me to Emmett?' not that Bethany would ever say it that way.
Of course, she was glad to see a friendly face at all. She'd only been there a morning, but Alice was the first of many people she had seen that she knew. It was a comfort.

Or she could stay here and Bethany could go looking for him, she thought were another smirk.

She smiled somewhat timidly. "I'd forgotten how good you were at reading people," Bethany said. "I'd love to see him again if it's not too much trouble."

She grinned wickedly. "But it's no trouble, I'm sure. I'm sure he'll be happy to see you," she added. "He's been... missing Rose, I think. She hasn't been summoned."
Alice wondered if she should bother adding a 'yet' onto that - it was pretty unlikely at this point that she would be summoned anyway - but... it was cruel to say that she wasn't going to be summoned.
She shrugged, heading off at a slightly faster than human pace in the general direction of the town, searching for Emmett.

"That's a shame," Bethany said, trying to sound as if she meant it. But she had never been fond of Rosalie, and not just for obvious reasons. The other vampire was always irritated with something to the point of being obnoxious, and Bethany didn't mind that the blond wasn't there.
She did smile once Alice took off running and couldn't see her expression--even if she would probably sense it--before she ran after the other vampire.

Dusting off his hands as if he'd really exerted himself, he stepped back to view his handiwork.

"He's up there," she said, her tone betraying her amusement. "Want me to come along with you? Or would you rather meet him on your own?" she asked, eyes sparkling.
She could always go look up Jasper, after all. See how he was handling things.

Bethany had followed, and she smiled at Alice's question. "You already know the answer to that," the vampire pointed out. "Thank you, Alice. I really appreciate it. I'm sure I'll see you later." She gave her friend a smile before turning away from her.
She started up the mountain somewhat slowly, taking in Emmett's familiar scent. It had been years, but she still remembered it. Bethany watched him for a moment before finally speaking up--the fact that she could so easily sneak up on him had always been the only weakness he had around her. Her stealth was almost her own vampire gift in some ways.
"Hi," she said quietly. It was spoken at nearly a whisper, but his keen senses would pick up on it.

"Hey," he returned, "You just get here? Nah, don't answer that; of course you did. How's it going? I haven't seen you in ages."
He moved toward her, bridging the distance. Not that they'd need to shout to hear each other, but there was still no need for it. Vaguely, he wondered how Rosalie would take this, but she wasn't here, so ... no problem, right?

And suddenly she felt a little shy, even though she knew him. "Yes," she said, answering anyway. "I sort of...woke up here. It was weird." She paused, then added, "You uh...you look good." Not that a vampire would age, but Bethany thought he had kept his looks particularly well. Then again, she was biased. "Alice told me where to find you." She glanced over at the trees, then back at him, "Keeping busy?"
