"It's nice to finally meet you," he continued as he settled his pale blue gaze on Simon. Reaching out his other hand, he rubbed River's back softly before he tilted his head. "Are you sure he wanted to see me this morning?"

"Hello Kyle," he offered as he sat, "I hadn't expected to meet you today, no, but my sister has a way of ... springing things on me when I least expected."
Throwing up on his bed, roundhouse kicking him in the throat, whatever got the job done. And now, apparently, she had added hijacking him to the cafeteria to that list.
"It's nice to meet you all the same," he concluded, though he looked more uncomfortable than anything else and not like it was 'nice' at all.

Though she thought that she might be mixing that up with something. She thought about that for a moment, before she shrugged. It didn't matter, it explained her point.
"Simon is concerned as to the nature of our relationship," she informed Kyle, doing her best - and failing - to keep a straight face.
Then figuring that she did in fact want Simon to stick around and get to know Kyle, she turned to face Simon. "Perhaps you should steer," she said with a grin. "Is not my story."

He didn't think Simon looked very pleased to be here, but River seemed entirely too amused, so he smiled to her before he glanced back to Simon. "What concerns did you have regarding our relationship?" he inquired. Maybe it would be easier to press things from that angle than from another. If Simon told him what he was concerned about, Kyle could assure or explain.

"My ... ah ... my concern, of course, was with .. um ... you see," he began, already tripping over himself and attempting to make gestures that weren't overtly sexual in a public place, "Your physical relationship, as it were."
He tried not to look at either of them and focused on a spot on the table before realizing that was something a ten year old would do and looking up again, gaze settling tentatively on Kyle.

"Wishes to 'protect me'," she told Kyle, using air quotes in the appropriate places to indicate her already well known belief that she didn't think she needed to be protected.

"I have read several books on the topic. I know how to bring her pleasure without hurting her," he assured Simon - because clearly, that was the only thing, as River's brother, that Simon could be concerned about. "There is no need for you to protect her from me. I will treat her very carefully and not damage her."

"Well, Kyle, that's ... ah, that's very ..." he began, then coughed and tried again, "That's very considerate of you. To think about ... her ... Ahem. Ah, no, my issue is more with the general concept of you carrying on a physical relation with my ... ah ... sister. She's ... more delicate than sometimes she lets on and I don't really think she's in a .. mental position to engage in a physical relationship. Not just with you, but with ... anyone."
He was rather red by this point and he wondered if he was just putting his foot in his mouth. He reasoned he likely was and sighed.

"Broken," River agreed softly to Simon. "But not always," she pointed out. "Puzzle is built enough to see the picture, now. Before was just jumbles of pieces. Much fewer missing pieces now." She gave him a very stern glare. "Am capable."

"If she does not wish to engage in a physical relationship with me, she would tell me and I would listen," Kyle explained to Simon. "But if she wishes for that from me, then I will happily provide it for her. I want only to make my sun shine and keep the darkness from her."

He turned his eyes on River, but he wondered if he was even getting anywhere here or if this was relative to banging his head against a wall.
"I guess you know the consequences," he murmured to River, "I ... it's none of my business."
It hurt him to say that, because it did feel a lot like his business, but he had to realize that his sister was more than just his sister. Even if he wanted to protect her like she was two.

The worst part was perhaps that what he was saying was not wrong, it was just misguided, and she wasn't certain how to explain that to him. Then again, she did not give serious consideration to the idea of Kyle leaving her, when perhaps she should. Isn't that what normal girls did in these sorts of relationships? Fret endlessly about the potential end of the good thing? Is that what she should be doing? But the idea just seemed so ludicrous to her ( ... )

He did agree that it was Simon's business, his concern, but Kyle wasn't that guy. "I would not hurt her, and I would leave her only if my staying would hurt her more than my leaving would." Though he didn't foresee any situation in which that was even remotely likely.
"I love her," he stated simply to Simon as if that was all the explanation that was needed. As far as Kyle was concerned, it was.

"You love my sister," he ventured before glancing to River, "And you ...?"
His head ached faintly and he wondered if he should go have himself looked over by one of the other doctor sorts. Preferably not the one he'd had the dubious pleasure of meeting recently.

She looped her arm gently around Kyle, stroking her other arm gently down it, and beamed up at him. She wondered why Simon couldn't understand that they loved each other - it was so obvious to her.
Maybe he couldn't see it because he didn't want to see it, or was too afraid to see it. Or maybe he didn't understand how it could be possible. But River knew that things worked differently here - doors were opened for relationships that would not have been able to exist elsewhere. Yes, maybe they happened a bit quickly, but... could he not accept that was just because they were right for each other?
A wry smile crossed her lips. No, she supposed he couldn't. It wasn't in his nature.
