And with her going over to Riverfell, he'd been worried sick even though he'd had his own things to attend to. Simon strode purposefully to River and stood over her.
"Are you all right?" he asked softly.

"Simon," she said, nodding her head slightly. "Am fine. No pains, or lacerations of any sorts," she leaned her hand back to assist as she started to push herself to her feet. "Was careful," she told him, as though wondering if he thought she wouldn't have been.

He frowned; she seemed all right. He just wished she'd stop volunteering for every suicide mission under the sun. It wasn't as if they didn't have enough people here for her to sit things out. But then, controlling his sister had never been something Simon had done well.

"I can help," she reminded him. Or told him. She wasn't convinced that he understood that yet. "Tagged out a Riverfellian this morning. Moved faster than anticipated, but I calculated the angles..." she held out her arm, elbow locked to demonstrate to Simon exactly how she had done it.

"I just really wish you'd stop putting yourself in dangerous positions," he murmured, "It's not necessary."
Of course, there were a lot of things he wished she'd stop doing, but he tried to look the other way. As her older brother, he still wasn't entirely approving of Kyle. River was, to his mind, far too fragile for that sort of thing.

She frowned a bit, resting her hand on his arm. "You fix people," she reminded him. "I must find other ways to be of use to others."
She didn't understand what was so hard about this to understand. She was perfectly safe going over to Riverfell - she could handle herself just fine. Why did no one seem to understand that?

He clearly didn't understand her intense need to be in the middle of things anymore than she understood his desire to have her out of it.
"I just want to keep you safe," he admitted quietly, blue eyes looking to her with brotherly affection.
After all, he'd risked everything to keep her safe thus far. Why should it stop now?

"Suggestions?" she asked, her mouth curving upward in a slight smile. Though perhaps Simon would have an idea for what she could do. She, after all, had not spent a great deal of time thinking about it, having found no problem with volunteering for tasks in order to be useful.

Nothing was coming to mind though, and he sighed lightly, wrapping his arms around her in a brotherly hug.
"I don't know," he admitted, "Just ... try to be safer."
Which was as much help as telling the wind to stop blowing he supposed, but he had to say something, didn't he?
Reply
"Acceptable terms," River said with a half annoyed sigh. "Will speak to Kyle. Perhaps he can assist."
She didn't think that Kyle would have any complaints with the notion that she try to be safer in future.
Reply
"All right," he agreed, "I guess that's the most I can ask for."
Because he really couldn't protect her from anything, and that was half the worry.
Reply
"Not enough?" she asked, somewhat confused. "Should be pleased about restricting actions in order to follow a more safety conscious protocol?"
She went over her words again, and then frowned more fully, taking a half step back and putting one hand on her hip as she regarded Simon with an annoyed look.
"This is about Kyle," she deduced, eyes sparkling with amusement that Simon should have a problem with Kyle. Though perhaps she was amusing.

His argument was weak and he knew it, but Simon really wasn't a fan of his sister being involved with anyone. He didn't even know this Kyle person. Well, he'd seen him, but knew? Not so much.

"Relations?" she asked, gazing at him with an innocent expression, as though she had no idea what he was talking about. She tried very hard to school her features and not give away that she knew exactly what he was referring to, but there was a slight twitch at the corner of her lips that was almost a smile, and her eyes were sparkling with mischief.

"You know," he ventured, "When a man and a woman ..." He cleared his throat again, not sure if this was really his jurisdiction. "Uh, see, when they ..."
No, definitely not his territory. He waved it off with one hand.
"Never mind," he concluded lamely.
Reply
"When they..." she said, tilting her head forward slightly and moving her hands to indicate that he should continue before she burst into snickers again. She couldn't manage this conversation with a straight face.
"We haven't," she informed Simon with a knowing nod. "We could, if you feel it's time," she teased him, pretending to look thoughtful about that for a moment.
