Memorial day.

Oh, I had such a fabulous day yesterday. I went to see Bruce Almight with my parents which was a very cute movie, but they tried way too hard a lot of the time. It just didn't feel very well thought out. But some parts were still quite funny, particularly the parting of the red soup and the Yahweh! e-mail. It was a cute movie for a Memorial Day afternoon. :)
There were these younger girls siting behind me ... probably around 13, 14 years old. One of them, in particular, was positively darling. She was explaining a lot of the jokes to her friends, and I was pretty impressed with her knowledge. I saw her with her friends later, after the movie, and she was so sweet and kind. She was just one of those people who has a radiating presence, even if you don't know them.
We went to Sizzler afterwords, and sat by a window that had a view of the highway. I like watching the cars zoom by, and wonder where they're heading. I like pondering what the life stories are of the people inside.
Then we went on a drive along the coastline, and I watched all the memorial day crowds on the beach. Kites were flying, people were surfing, families and friends were having BBQs. It was bright and sunny, which I'm sure relieved many people, as it was quite rainy over the weekend.
My dad and I went to Tower Records in the mall then, while my mom stayed in the car and read some of a book I lent to her. My mom hates being left alone, and I've usually ended up staying with her, but I've started becoming more insistent that I shouldn't have to. Sometimes I still stay with her, because it does feel awful to be left out, but I feel a lot better when it feels more like my choice. It's a difficult battle every time, and it usually feels like more trouble than it's worth, but I've been sticking to it. But yes, I am just the pinnacle of teenage coolness, hanging out at the mall with my dad, looking through the DVDs of silent cinema and foreign flicks, then making notes of titles and prices for comparison shopping later. I did end up getting the DVD of Much Ado About Nothing, though. That's one of my favorite movies and Shakespeare plays.
It was a really great day. :)
