TM 166: Do you believe in ghosts?

Feb 19, 2007 11:52

ghost: (gōst) noun; a faint, weak, or greatly reduced appearance, trace, or possibility of something

There were twin daughters born to a king. He named the eldest Beauty and her sister Truth. When they were young they were inseparable. But Beauty was stronger and made more friends, each year Truth grew paler and quieter. The kingdom began to forget Beauty had a sister. Then the king forgot his second daughter. Finally Beauty forgot her twin and Truth faded away.

The king gave Beauty everything she asked for. She never wanted for companionship. She never wanted for anything. But it was as if her heart was empty and no matter what her father gave her or how many beaux she had it never filled. Something was missing. Something important. Without Truth Beauty was intangible.

On the occasion on her sixteenth birthday the king held a ball for Beauty. Every young man in the kingdom came to dance with Beauty. Beauty enjoyed dancing but none of the young men could make her smile. Then just before midnight she met a young man named Love. Love explained he came to the ball to dance with Truth but her couldn’t find her. At first Beauty didn’t understand but as Love spoke of Truth she began to remember her sister. Beauty cried with joy, her heart was filling.

But this story does not have a happy ending. Beauty wanted to leave the kingdom with Truth and Love but the king forbade it. He did not remember Truth and he did not believe in Love. Beauty asked Love to stay with her but Love chose Truth over Beauty. Love faded away from Beauty just as Truth had. Soon the king died and Beauty was alone.

Of course I believe in ghosts.

I am one.
