Renting vs owing a home

I recently went into a full battle discussion of renting versus buying.

Though I see the pros and cons of each side.

But, I really do not feel rent is a waste. (Call me naive.....)

Everyone needs somewhere to live despite whether they own it or not...a waste to me is spending 800 bucks a month on a brand new gold toilet seat. You feel me? I can't understand why people feel renting is a waste. We all need somewhere to live and living at home isn't that option and some people do not have the down payment to buy a home/condo/etc.

Im really feeling  this you need to buy a house "buy a house", "buy a house" mentality. (Due my age group, income yada) I feel people are kind of snobs when it comes to this issue.
For my personal situation, I would rather rent and be able to travel freely like this year. I went to Brazil and Florida.
I have no family as of yet. So I guess I dont feel that added pressure to buy. Hum.....

Though, I can appreciate the fact that the house will be there in your golden years, when rent will probably be higher then your social security money. I can see the potential in one day owning that home. But truth be told, that house is probably not going to be your home till over 25 years down the line when it is fully paid off.

So yea...Im stuck in deciding between the one.  IE...Moving to a new place which I recently offered in a super cute area that I could never afford to buy a home. Homes are $500,000.00 and +
Or look into buying a condo somewhere else.

Hey Folks...let's hear your 2 cents.

What you say will be respected :)
