Easter Bunions

I'm leaving for my parents' place this afternoon for Easter weekend (a three-hour drive from Toronto).  My mother had bunion surgery a couple weeks ago, which involved breaking her foot in two places.  She's recovering well and getting around on crutches, but obviously she hasn't been able to cook or clean the house since the operation, so she's kind of going nuts. (Dad has been trying his best, making simple meals and vacuuming, but cooking and cleaning have never been his "role"--see what happens when you stick to traditional gender stereotypes?)

I feel terrible leaving Jeremy on his own for Easter, but he's in the middle of THE MOST IMPORTANT EXAMS HE'LL EVER TAKE so he can't really afford to leave the library these days.  Also, since he's been studying, I've taken over all of the cooking, cleaning, and laundry duties so that he can just focus, so I'm worried about what he's going to do for the five days I'm gone.  I imagine he'll just buy all of his meals, but I'm sorry I wasn't able to fill up the fridge before I left.  Poor guy.  He also went to the hospital yesterday after apparently being poisoned by hand cream.  He was really sick for a while but ended up feeling well enough to leave before seeing a doctor.  I think he's fine now but it makes me extra uneasy about leaving him with no one but Milly for company.  Milly hasn't figured out how to dial "911" with her paws yet.

I'll also have to look after Easter dinner for the first time.  Dad will look after the main course (because cooking meat is manly!), but I'll have to deal with the fixins.  Martha Stewart's website has some relatively easy side dish recipes, so I think I'll work with them--maybe some scalloped potatoes with leeks, and some roasted asparagus.  Not sure what to do for dessert though.  I should find something good, because Mom loves dessert.

this is neat
