'Freedom of Expression'

Aug 24, 2011 08:41

This ad, spread across the centre of the gay ‘Attitude’ magazine, was paid for by the Israel Ministry of Tourism. It’s a very clear example of ‘pinkwashing’ - Israel’s attempts to portray itself as a beacon of civilisation and democracy in a region of barbarity. Jasbir Puar writes about this eloquently so I don’t have to. Suffice to say that I have absolutely zero doubt that the thought process of many of the privileged white gay readers of ‘Attitude’ will run:Israel likes gays. Muslims don’t like gays. I support Israel in whatever it does.

You’ll notice that ‘The Freedom of Expression’ takes prominence in the advert. Without further comment, you may wish to read these with that with that in mind .
