Lucky Number 3

Feb 09, 2010 16:54

Today, I was looking at the shops, and there was a really great carved mask. It was funny, and it could also be scary, and I thought it would be nice if I could sneak up on people. So I bought the mask, and it cost me... Well, most of what I had. But after I brought it back to my room, it broke. And when I took it back to the guy who sold it to me ( Read more... )

[On his way to the shop, he turns with a smile to say something- only to find nothing there. Why did he keep doing that?]

Hello, I would like to buy some clothes.

[Bastet gives a slow blink, her faint smile never wavering.]

You don't say.

[She leans an elbow on the counter, resting her chin in her hand as she settles more comfortably in her chair.]

Feel free to look around. Let me know if you have any questions.

[He looks at a couple items for a moment, before turning back towards her.]

I would like a large cake. With blue icing, and... 27 candles. And, they need to glow in the dark. And I need it now, because I'm on my way to a party, and they'll be needing it.

...

[She keeps her voice calm and level, despite her utter disbelief.]

Uh huh. Then I suggest you try the bakery.

No, I don't want to go to the bakery, I want to go here. And I'm asking you for it. And I need it right this minute, or else... The people at the party will hang themselves from... depression.

Then perhaps you should start hanging out with friends who aren't quite so emotionally fragile. You can't get cake here. You can get clothes, or you can get out.

No, that's not- That's not what you're supposed to say. You're supposed to be ready to help me in any way, and to try and save their lives. ...Maybe I wasn't being clear enough.

I need a cake. And if I don't get one right now, then... I will burn this place to the ground. Now, you try to find a way to help me, the needy customer. It's your job. That's what you do when you have a business.

[Bastet just...stared for a moment. Was this guy for real? Did Dash hire him to fuck with her? Hell, she wouldn't put this past Crow either--he'd probably be right outside in order not to miss the carnage.]

[Amazingly though, she smiled. But it was a smile that everyone who knew her and even most that didn't would know meant bad news. She slowly came to her feet, her voice low and dangerously sweet.]

Did you just threaten to burn down my shop?

[To Boss he's teaching someone a valuable lesson, not unlike a teacher would a student.]

Yes, I did. I am an unhappy, dissatisfied customer who requires your attention. I'm looking for something that I need, and it's your job to get it to me. I am the customer, and I am important. Now that you know that, what do you do?

[He was insane--he must be. That was the only possible explanation. Crazy or no, though, this went firmly under the heading of Shit Bastet Did Not Tolerate, and she'd respond accordingly.

She vaulted over the counter, standing in front of him with her arms crossed, still with that sharp, dangerous smile.]

No, you're a fucking nutcase. Or a moron, one. This is a clothing store; if you want cake, go somewhere else.

[She tilted her head.]

But threatening to set fire to a shop in the middle of a crowded market...that's rather serious, given the possible harm that could come to all the customers you claim are so important. And something I think the Commander of the Watch would be very interested in knowing.

[He keeps to his patience, looking down towards the ground at the beginning of his monologue, before glancing back up to her. His speaks calmly like an adult to a kid as he corrects her.]

Okay... First of all, you're never supposed to insult the customer. That's very rude, and they might find it offensive if you do that. I am a disgruntled customer who is in need of something, and I need your help. What do you do in that situation?

And it's not a problem, because the Commander of the Watch isn't here. So no worries there.

You're not a customer. You're some pushy idiot who threatened to burn down my shop. If you're not out of here in five seconds, I will throw you out. And if I catch you sniffing around here again, I'll break something.

Okay... I don't think you get what's going on here. In business, the customer is the most important thing. And the big thing to remember is that the customer is always right. Even when they're wrong, they're right. I came in here to demonstrate that to you. I hope you learned a valuable lesson. Because, right now... You're really not giving good customer service. I'm a little turned away right now.

Five seconds are up.

[Bastet hooks her fingers in the front of his coat, dragging him towards the door. Once it's open, she plants a foot on his ass and shoves him outside.]

Wait, what are you- Stop- Stop that! Stop STOP!

OW Jeez...!

[Once outside he turns, frustrated and obviously unhappy.]

What is wrong with you?! That's- You can't do this! I'm a customer, and... you're supposed to be nice to me, and...

[Lets out a quick sigh.]

So... This was a test. I was testing you to make sure you would treat the customer right, and you failed. You failed it and there is no going back. No tagbacks. Just... How could you do this?
