So, now we've got a draft. I'm remembering why I never bothered with citizenship back home. More trouble than it's worth.

Anyone get picked?

Nothing.

[And he'll just... make this private.] Not intending to go if that changes, either.

If they ask for our help -- That is, if they can dismount their high horses long enough to admit they need it whether they want us to call ourselves Jedi or not -- I'm not sure Jacen and Anakin would turn them down. We might wind up seeing this war firsthand either way. So, be ready.

I'm always ready. But I won't be doing it on the government's say-so. Not my style. And you may have noticed, I'm rot at taking orders.

The thought had occurred to me, yeah. [ A pause. ] Maybe it wouldn't be such a bad idea for you to stay out of it, though.

And why's that? [...dare he hope she's worrying about him?]

Someone's gonna need to look after Dawn. Someone strong enough to actually keep her safe.

And this has nothing to do with how last time I went out to fight one of their battles, I got myself blown up?

Well, it didn't, but now that you mention it, it doesn't hurt the argument. I just -- If we get dragged into this war all front line-y, I want to know she'll be safe.

She will be. But she can take care of herself now, you know. She's grown into a very capable young woman. A lot like her big sister.

So, I keep hearing. She doesn't need you to advocate for her. Look, if we're lucky, this will be the last we hear of a draft and anyone who didn't get called won't. But, if it does change and we're needed ... [ A sigh. ] Please. You said you wouldn't go, anyway. So, will you look after her if I need to?

Of course I will. [It's said without a second's hesitation.] I just hope it doesn't come to that. I'd rather you stayed around too.

I think we all hope it doesn't come to that. But here it is. Coming to that. Funny how they left the draft clause off the registration form. Funnier how we didn't get a choice in being all citizen-y.

And they framed it as such a nice thing.

Do I get to start with the I-told-you-sos yet?

Gas chambers remain to be seen, Nazi guy. Until someone we actually know is getting shipped out, you can hold off.

All right, I'll save them up, then.

[He hesitates for a moment. Then... subject change.]

You and the Watcher have your tearful reunion yet?
