Once again, Charles gets his geeky/Professor on

Nov 07, 2011 20:04

[This time the data pad snaps on with a bit more confidence, he's getting better at this, well marginally anyway. Despite dark circles under his eyes, the sort that any academic worth his salt ends up with when caught up in the thrill of a research project, Charles looks clear headed and for once he's not wearing a sweater, shirt sleeves rolled up as he smiles at the camera. and splashes some brandy into a mug of tea.]

Ah, yes I did hit the right button this time. Hello, uh, everybody watching I suppose. After I finished up my last little history lesson on Revan, I started to go back over some of the cross references I came across in my initial investigation. I now have the results of this most recent foray into the history of this galaxy we all find ourselves ... guests of.

I wish I could say I'd found the answer for us all but I fear the conclusions I've been able to form from all of this are rather disappointing on that front and are, in fact, somewhat disturbing over all.

[Taking a sip of his tea, Charles cleared his throat and began to read off from his notes. As before, he pitched and modulated his voice so that hopefully it wouldn't reel off as monotone white noise in the background.]

Right then, to start off we're moving a little backwards in chronological terms. Last time I spoke to you all, it was of the Mandelorian Wars, events which came, for the most part, after what is known as the 'Great Sith War'.

This war, took place between the years of 4,000 BBY and 3,996 BBY and is considered one of the largest engagements of the Sith wars. The root of the conflict can be traced back to the fall of the Jedi prodigy Freedon Nadd from the Jedi path and his rise as the Dark Lord of the Sith. In particular, we need to look at the battle for the planet Onderon, where the Jedi were able to break Nadd's hold for a temporary period of time.

However around the year 3,998 Onderon experienced what is known as the Naddist Uprising, which is an entire subject all its own which I'll save for a rainy day. For our current purposes, this is important because this uprising saw the Krath rise to power and influence.

[Charles glanced up at the datapad for a moment.]

We all remember the Krath from the Mandelorian Wars, right? Yes, well this is their starting point.

Using Sith knowledge that they had gained from Nadd and his followers on Onderon, the Krath instituted a bloody coup in the Empress Teta system and began a series of campaigns aimed at Republic space. After several defeats at the hands of the Krath, Jedi Knight Ulic Qel-Droma advised the Jedi Order that he would infiltrate the Krath and destroy them from within.

[Again, Charles pauses, this time taking a sip of tea.]

Anybody recall that name? [He quirks an eyebrow at the datapad and sets aside his mug to continue.]

During his undercover mission, Ulic fell to the dark side and joined forces with another fallen Jedi-turned-Sith by the name of Exar Kun.

[Charles gives the data pad another knowing look before he continues.]

Eventually Kun was anointed the new Dark Lord of the Sith, with Qel-Droma as his apprentice and together they ushered the galaxy into a new Sith age.

This is where things get a little sticky so please bear with me.

Recall, if you will that the Mandelorians were at this same time making their push to find new and stronger foes and sought out the Krath and Qel-Droma. Mandalore the Indomitable was defeated in single combat by Qel-Droma and the Mandelorians put their lot in with the Krath, Qel-Droma and Exar Kun. Which we've already talked about but to wrap up things from this side of the story, with their new allies Exar Kun and Qel-Droma launched a series of deadly campaigns against the Republic, eventually making their way to Coruscant. Following this battle, Kun and Qel-Droma launched an assult on Ossus, in an attempt to raid the planet of its Jedi artifacts, however at this battle, the Sith forces were defeated and Qel-Droma was captured.

Kun retreated to his base back on Yavin 4 where he would be confronted by the broken and humbled Qel-Droma who lead the combined forces of the Republic Rim Fleet and Jedi to Yavin 4. There Exar Kun was defeated.

We've kind of already touched on where things go from there, with the Madelorians so I'm going to back up a couple of steps and focus briefly on Freedon Nadd and his role in all of this. Which actually requires backing up to the year 5,000 BBY and the Great Hyperspace War. In this conflict, which encompassed the entire Galactic Republic, the war was eventually taken back to the remote star system of Primus Goluud and the Sith mausoleum world of Korriban.

Korriban is an interesting read I have to admit, so please indulge me a brief tangent here.

[Charles shifted forward and nudged a piece of paper into position to read from.]

After their defeat during the earliest Jedi Civil Wars, called the Great Schisms, the adherents of the dark side fled from Republic space and settled on the world of Korriban, where they ruled over the barbaric red-skinned Sith species like gods.

In time the Dark Jedi and the remarkably Force-sensitive Sith natives interbred through the use of Sith alchemy and became one people. The united Sith formed an immensely rich and powerful empire built up sorcery and dark-side-fueled technology, quite possibly adapted from the scattered ruins of the earlier Infinite Empire of the Rakata.

And before you ask, the Infinite Empire of the Rakata is next on my list of required reading but moving along.

Over the centuries, the Dark Jedi exiles were forgotten by the Galactic Republic, even as all records of the Republic were lost by the Sith. The two civilizations thrived in isolation, each ignorant of the other.

[Pushing his note away, Charles glances at the data pad and purses his lips thoughtfully.]

So effectively a couple thousand years ago, if I read my time lines correctly, it was exiles from a Fractured Jedi Order, who splintered off, found a planet, intermingled with the native species and lay the foundation for the Sith. These Jedi were known as 'Dark Jedi' were Force-sensitives, frequently former Jedi, who chose to deny the light side of the Force and/or follow the dark side. Although 'Dark Jedi' originally referred to a Jedi who had fallen to the dark side, it could also refer to uninitiated Force-sensitives who received no Jedi training but began their careers under another Dark Jedi.

[Sound like anyone we all know and well ... many of us resembled? Uninitiated Force-Sensitives, drawn here by a Dark Jedi?]

Alright, where was I ... ah, yes the Great Hyperspace War, the Republic taking the war back to Korriban and driving the Sith Lord Naga Sadow to exile himself on Yavin 4.

This is the condensed version, in case anyone was wondering. I have further notes on all of this but at this time Naga Sadow is a means to an end. You see Sadow fled to Yavin 4 with his remaining Massassi warriors, where he hoped to rebuild the Empire. Failing in his goal, Sadow entered a Sith sarcophagus to wait for someone to seek him out to continue the Sith Empire. 600 years later, Freedon Nadd -we all remember him, yes?- traveled to Yavin 4, awakened Sadow's spirit and learned from him.

After he learned all that he could, Nadd destroyed Sadow's spirit and left Yavin 4 to rule over the planet Onderon.

[Polishing off his tea and brandy, Charles cleared his throat as he sat up and nudged some data cards out of the way.]

For those of you attempting to keep a score card, it goes a little like this. Dark Jedi from the Order, split off in what is known as the Great Schisms and end up on Korriban with the Sith. Sith and Republic forget about each other until hyperspace explorers Gav and Jori Daragon, in an effort to discover a lucrative new hyperspace route, come across Korriban. Sith and Republic relearn of each other and we end up with the Great Hyperspance War.

The Republic gets the upper hand and drives then Sith Lord Naga Sadow into exile from Korriban to Yavin 4 and for nearly a thousand years, the galaxy knows peace. At the end of that thousand years, Jedi prodigal Freedon Nadd, falls and flees to the heart of the old Sith Empire, when he learns of Sadow and traces him to Yavin 4.

Nadd learns all he can about the dark side of the Force from Nadd, destroys him and heads for Onderon where he engages with and is defeated by the Jedi. Yet the seed are planted for the Nadd Uprising which brings the Krath to power and influence. The Krath then institute a bloody coup in the Empress Teta system and begin to push into Republic space.

After the Krath managed to defeat the Republic and the Jedi in a couple of these battles, the Jedi Knight Ulic Qel-Droma attempted to infiltrate the Krath in a bid to bring them down from the inside. Instead, he hooked up with Fallen Jedi Exar Kun, an apprentice to the Sith Lord Freedon Nadd -again another story entirely- who took on the mantel of a Sith Lord himself with Qel-Droma as his apprentice.

We have the Mandelorians in the mix which in turn kicks off the Mandelorian wars, with whispers of the Sith behind them, which is when we see Jedi Knight Revan and his Revanites engage and, well we've already talked about that outcome.

[Brushing his hand through his hair in an attempt to get the locks out of his face, Charles rubbed his fingers over the bridge of his nose before lowering it and reaching for his pencil to fiddle with.]

These worlds have been in the grip of a civil war for well over two thousand years. A civil war that in its infancy was rooted in the fundamental difference in philosophy between members of one specific Order.

One thing I am noticing is a distinct pattern of pairs when it comes to the Sith and that the most prominent 'Sith' rise from the fall of precocious and brilliant young Jedi. Also of note seem to be the idea of Jedi artifacts and the various temples and mausoleums of the Sith. In particular Yavin 4 and Korriban, though I am still researching those last two in particular.

For now, I hope this can cast our predicament in a slightly sharper light. In my opinion, we're looking at two wars, not just one and two wars that might find us fighting on opposite sides, depending upon which war you focus upon. Regardless, I am uncertain how any of us can escape being pawns on either chess board as the Sith play a deep game and from all accounts, Revan is one of the more tactically brilliant Jedi to fall and be turned.

I doubt he's brought any of us here without multiple contingencies in play for our use to his final designs.

[Spearing his hand through his hair once again, Charles sat forward, reaching for yet another data card, even as he moved to switch the datafeed to private.]

Private to Erik, Kurt, Vazquez and Logan.

[Once he gets the feed shifted to private, he frowns at the display, the expression one of concern but not alarm. More like he's frustrated at having a puzzle he can't put his fingers onto ... yet.]

Given recent events broadcast and the claim of hostilities towards Outworlders, I was wondering what we know of this 'Crimson Terror' threat?

Perhaps more important, what should we know about this threat. I'm thinking it couldn't hurt to at least start putting together a brief on the potential dangers of this group and figure our next move from there.

Private to Buffy

[This one he debates with himself for a good hour after reaching out to Erik and the others. Its not as if he knows her well enough to be poking his nose into this but ... well, poking his nose -or his mind- into the business of others is something of a hobby. And well, while he'd recognized that little was going steer her from her course, unless people -Spike- had better luck, he was still concerned if she'd made it out in one piece.

Physically and emotionally.

Call him an intrusive little shit but after their couple of conversations and the connection over the whole 'dead and knowing about it' future bit, he felt justified in his nosiness concern.]

Buffy? Was the ... ah, arse kicking, satisfactory?
