Midnight Wake-Up Calls

Oct 02, 2011 19:05

[Some hours past the middle of the night, the datapad suddenly alights with sound-- clicking, hasty shuffling, and an abrupt BANG as if it were just dropped. The video feature switches on, focusing on a very detailed close up of the fabric of the apartment's cheap commercial carpet. Everything beyond is dark, lost in the blackness of night.]

[Lily is about to ask what's going on, but she listens to the rest of the replies first]

Garrus, I...may know what's happening. She's unresponsive, yes? And she was fine before she went to sleep?

What? [He grabs for the datapad, focusing on Lily's reply.] Yes. What is it? Is it some sort of new plague?

No, it's not a plague. Or at least, not that I know of. But this has happened a few times before, I've been keeping track of it. Occasionally when people die, they come back...having experienced more of their particular timeline than they had before. Once or twice, though, this has happened without people dying. They fall asleep, stay asleep for the same length of time that people are gone once they're dead, and they come back from later.

If she's not awake in a week, it's likely something else. But if your doctor can't find anything else wrong with her, that's likely the cause.

It's happened before? ['Scuse the space raptor while he seizes that thought like a drowning man grabbing onto a lifeboat.] Hang on, Mordin should hear this. [And he is going to show the datapad to the space doctor :|b]

[She nods in response, sympathy written across her face. She's lost enough people here that she can understand to an extent how he must feel]

Several times now. Draco Malfoy is the most recent person I can think of; he fell into a coma, and woke up a week later a year and a half older. I'm no medical expert, but if there's no other possible cause, it's probably Revan's work. Or - just the Force. Either way, she ought to be be back on her feet in a week.

Hm. Interesting. No physical cause? Should make sure nothing else is wrong, but this seems promising. Could explain a lot.

...Is she going to wake up a year and a half older? [Although he supposed Shepard has a precedent for this sort of thing. Still it's-- weird, and while Garrus desperately wants to believe everything will be okay he's seen too much in his life to be that naive.]

Thanks, Lily. A week, huh?

It won't necessarily be a year and a half. It hasn't happened often enough for me to have conclusive data on what's happening, I'm sorry.

It's not trouble, I'm just glad I could help somewhat. If you need anything, please don't hesitate to ask.

That's fine. It's enough to-- [Have some hope.] --to know this much. I'm glad someone has been paying attention.
