[This is probably the most distressed most of you have seen or will see Lily Evans be. It's been a shitty couple of weeks for her, and she looks sort of like she's missing a day or two of sleep]

Sirius Black hasn't checked in with me for several days now. [she swallows, injects some steal into her voice] If any of you happen to see see him, tell ( Read more... )

[Lily 8( Anders clears his throat.] He might be back? Will be back. Optimism does wonders.

... Oh sod it, want to see me light something inanimate on fire? That tends to cheer some people up at the very least.

[She draws a tired laugh from her] Now there's an idea. I don't think I've actually practised setting anything on fire, as of yet. Just heating it up. [Her fingers move, and blobs of melted metal swim by the camera in mid air]

I happen to be very good at setting things on fire, it's one of my many charming qualities. [He pauses.] Tell you what, let's find a place to practice, hm? I can see if I can teach you a proper fireball- it's extremely useful, and fun! And distracting from all the nonsense this month has thrown around.

[She pauses for a moment, before something in her countenance picks up; she straightens slightly, looks immediately more engaged in the conversation. If there's one thing that's guaranteed to cheer Lily Evans up, it's the promise of learning new magic] Are you certain? I've mostly just been fumbling around on my own since I left the Jedi, I haven't really - that would be wonderful, Anders, thank you.

Well, I can't promise the cross magic, Force nonsense won't be a little difficult to work with but what's life without challenges? Besides, I take any excuse I get to throw fireballs at things. [And distractions this week were always nice, that and mages who were actually interested and proud of their abilities.]

Meet me outside the apartments? If you're a good student we can get space milkshakes after. [He says in mock solemnity.]

[She waves her hand] I've been here for a year, I've managed to get around most of that. Most of the magic in my world is done with a wand - a Jedi Master who was here some time ago told me to think of myself as a wand, and I've been able to channel the Force much in the same was as I'm used to, since then. [She might be talking a little bit faster because she loves magic, and boy is it the best ever distraction. She rolls her eyes at the milkshake line, though]

Thank you, O my Master.

A wand? Back in my world it was a staff or good old nothing. Still, if it's anything like magic in my world or the Force it's the same 'look in yourself,' concentration bit I think we'll manage.

[He laughs] You're welcome, I believe in positive reinforcement. If only all magic, Force teachers were so wise.

[And he'll be waiting outside B) He's actually pretty excited, throwing fireballs without worrying about being killed was always exciting. Huzzah magic]

[She waves her wand at the screen to show him before setting it down and packing up. She continues chattering at the datapad as she makes her way out of her apartment] In my world, we'd get housepoints. I have to say, I vastly prefer milkshakes.

[She waves at him as she approaches; she's smiling now, although there are still dark circles under her eyes from lack of sleep] We could probably go to the Jedi temple. They have something of an open door policy, and rooms set up to withstand potential rogue fireballs.

[He tries not to laugh- look it seems ridiculous to him. Wands, come on, that's stuff from kid's stories B( Staves were where it was at.] Points mean nothing unless you can cash them in for something other than bragging rights in my opinion.

[Anders waves back, the healer in him taking note of those bags but saying nothing. Stress wasn't something you could heal away unfortunately.] So they do have their uses- lead the way, oh disciple. [He does a dramatic sort of bow.] So you trained with these Jedi for a while? Why did you stop?

[She notices anyway :'D] Don't make that face! My world...essentially is like something out of a storybook. To an eleven year old who first gets her letter to go to magic school, getting a wand is the most amazing thing you could imagine. In actuality, of course, it's just a focus. Channels your power so that you can better control it and stop making branches fall off trees when you're angry. And as for the points - it was a school full of teenagers. Bragging rights were the ultimate prize.

[She rolls her eyes and dips a small curtsy in response before they start to walk. She's not wearing a skirt :'D] For about the middle four months or so that I was here, yes. I was one of the very first to arrive - there were only three or four other people here that I knew were Outworlders for months. I spent that time learning the lay of the land and fumbling along trying to understand the magic here before deciding I really needed a teacher. Other than the Sith, the Jedi were the only ones really available at the time, and the Sith weren't an ( ... )

[He tries his best to look solemn, though it's obvious he's amused.] Did you have broomsticks and turn people to frogs? [ :|' ] And the non-mages were alright with all this? You know, magic schools and eleven year olds with wands and what not.

[Anders can't help but snort when he hears all that, shaking his head.] I'll never understand that mentality, it's the same with magic in a way, where I'm from. Contain it, wait wait wait until someone says it's ok to use. Why not use it to it's full potential? We were born with a bloody gift, Maker forbid we actually do something with it. [He rolls his eyes.]

Can't say I've seen much of these Jedi- they're all a bit to much like the Circle back home for my tastes. Giving them a wide berth always seemed like the best plan. [He glances at her.] They don't give you trouble, do they? You know, decide since you don't believe in their beliefs that you're trouble.

Yes, actually. [A grin] Well, the broomsticks at least. You probably could transfigure someone into a frog, but that's extremely advanced magic. People can turn themselves into animals, but it takes a lot of training if you want to retain your mind when you do it. As for the non-mages - Muggles, we call them - our world is separate from them. They don't know we exist. We live alongside them with our own government, and they have no idea. That's part of the issue with the blood supremacy - pureblood wizards and witches don't have any understanding about Muggles. They view them as animals.

[Oh, a debate about magic *u*] It's not about restricting it, though. It's about making sure you don't blow anyone's head off accidentally. I wasn't joking about the tree branch thing - my friend got mad at my sister, once. If she had been standing in the wrong position, she might have been killed or seriously hurt. Hogwarts - my school, hideous name, I know - isn't about holding us back. They actively encourage maximising our abilities. A magic-run ( ... )

... You really had broomsticks? Now I know I'm jealous. That is colossally unfair. All we get are demons- you don't have demons, do you? The Fade, temptation, Templars - that sort of thing? [He considers the muggle bit] Huh, maybe that's the trick. Keeping the non-magic folk in the dark probably stops them from realizing there's something there to hate. Still, there will always be one side think they're better than the other, hm? Magic or non-magic. Just depends on who has the power to ruin things for the rest of us.

[The best *_* Anders shrugs, though he's pretty into this discussion and it's obvious. It's so rare to meet anyone with a positive view of magic and it's uses, even amongst mages] I won't deny magic is dangerous. Where I'm from it's even worse, you have to be trained or a demon will possess you like that- [he snaps] Your school- Hogwarts, really? - that's the right attitude. Magic shouldn't be barely tolerated, it should be used to it's potential, or at least given the chance to do good rather than just scare the hapless ( ... )

We had a whole sport revolving around flying broomsticks. Racing, too. We don't have demons, no. Although there are creatures that one might...consider demons. There are some here, actually, they got dragged through. They're called Dementors, and they guard the wizard prison, Azkaban. They feed on happiness, suck it right out of you until you can't remember what it was like to smile. If you've committed a truly heinous crime, they can deliver the Kiss - they suck your soul out through your mouth. [Her voice softens for a moment] I hate them. And - keeping Muggles in the dark is one way of keeping magic folk safe, but we end up with people hating them, and hating those born from them. Honestly, I think it's just people in general who can't handle peaceful co-existence.

[She nods in agreement, this time] I can only see that attitude of bare toleration leading to disaster, if I'm honest. Being hated can lead some people into doing truly stupid things. And yes, it's really called Hogwarts. I told you it was like a fairytale ( ... )

You're kidding- you're not kidding. That's... fantastic. Do you think this place has space broomsticks? [Anders makes a face] They sound... pleasant. And here I thought dragging darkspawn over was the worst that could be done. Well, at least they don't prey on mage's dreams and try to possess them... right? [And he thought demons in your dreams were bad, he hoped those weren't around as well.] Right, there's always one group ready to make life hard for another. Or start a war with another- or over another.

Uh, well yes. Definitely. [Like him apparently 8| whoops. Let's focus on Hogwarts for now] Admittedly Hogwarts isn't quite whimsical enough for fairytales if you ask me. It doesn't scream 'enchanted castle' so much as 'place you want to avoid wholeheartedly.' Or maybe 'dear Maker what's that stench?'

But you're on their side of the war. [Ah, the temple. Admittedly it makes him a little nervous, the place doesn't look like the Circle but everything he had heard sounded a little too much like the Circle for his comfort. Just... not ( ... )

It has swoop bikes? They run on technology, though, not magic. '[Lily makes a face in return] They're mostly on Nar Shaddaa at the moment, but if you do ever happen to come across them, the trick is to think of the happiest memory you have and blast them with the Force. They're impervious to almost everything else. [She sighs] Unfortunately. Not having magic doesn't stop people from being able to create massive amounts of destruction, either - we might have killing curses in my world, but its Muggles who created bombs powerful enough to level entire cities and still poison people years later. My point being, there are hideous people with magic and hideous people without it. What keep both in check are the people who aren't awful, and they exist everywhere too.

Well, in the founders' defence, they did name the school some thousand years ago. Perhaps it was whimsical at the time? And if I'm honest, there are parts of the castle you want to avoid whole heartedly - the second floor girl's bathroom, if nothing else. Poor Myrtle, why she ( ... )
