I surround myself with people that I value and who intrigue me, and when I can learn to laugh at myself. Yesterday I went to Golden Gate Park with some friends. I showed them the sakura cherry blossom trees alongside the Japanese Tea Garden.
“This is a symbol of life for the Japanese,” I later explained. They smelled the flowers, plucked them in their hands- and twirled them around in their fingers. It was a good feeling.
Afterward, we went to the botanical garden and sprawled ourselves on the lawn. “Is that a cherry tree, too?” my friend asked me. “No, I laughed, that’s a douglas fir” Until my friend caught me… “Uh- a douglas fir is a Christmas tree- and that is not an evergreen over there”
I laughed at myself later on. I had meant Dogwood and couldn’t come up with the right name!
