Why you should have conversations in clubs

At a DJ gig a few years ago, I thanked the other DJ because she was responsible for getting me hired.
Here's what I actually said:
Kreestof: BTW-Thanks for getting me hired!
Her: What?!?
Kreestof: They said you didn't want to do it alone.
Her: What?!?!

And here's what she thought I said:
Kreestof: BTW-Thanks for getting me hard!
Her: What?!?
Kreestof: They said you didn't want to do it alone.
Her: What?!?!

Due to her response, I realized she didn't understand and we worked we figured out the miscommunication.
I think I've accidentally burned a lot of bridges based on what people thought I said or meant.
