Romana & Harry & open | 0827 hours | 2nd floor of Da Skep

Jun 28, 2011 05:09

Light shone in through the curtains as the morning had grown brighter and more insistent. The room was one of the mid-range sizes with two beds on different walls perpendicular from each other. The carpet was an alarming shade of green and the walls a ghastly burnt orange ( Read more... )

"I'm not, my daughter is. I take if you are?" It wouldn't have surprised him, he'd noticed from Agnatha that the magical community tended to be a little distant, but the boy didn't blink over his own powers.

"You're not a wizard? Of course you are. I saw you cooking." I wasn't a challenge, Harry was merely confused.

"That? That's just something I can do. It's not magic but...I suppose it could look like it."

"What you mean." He turned back to Romana. "And, I'm sure you're right in... whatever it was you said but I'm afraid I didn't understand that either."

Harry was becoming more and more lost in this. In fact, he just wanted to go home. He'd even settle for the Dursley's. At least that made sense.

"Oh No. I suppose you are not experienced with alternate dimensions and are not even a fan of 'science fiction' so I'm going to have to explain this from theorum to practice." she sighs not out of irritation but of being slowed down from the juicy stuff. "So... People make decisions every day right? Big Decisions little decisions. And the tiniest decision can vastly change your life. If you take a left instead of a right you may meet the woman of your dreams instead of being hit by a double decker bus." she didn't appear to be breathing. "Now. Every one of those decisions can make an entirely seperate universe. Where you took choice B instead of choice A. And you decision changes other decisions and pretty soon everything is different. The further in the past everything changed the more different the two universes will be. For example a slight change at the very begining of the universe could entirely alter the way physics itself works. SO basically you and He are both DIFFERENT VERSIONS... of the same planet. Earth. On his Planet ( ... )

"So... like if there's a war, there could be a dimension where each side one?"

He was grasping at straws, but hew as trying.

She touched her finger to her nose. "Exactly! Or maybe a world where the Renaisance happened in Africa and Africa advanced to the point where it could get white slaves from Europe and colonize the Americas. Very different universes but the same planet. It's like.... OH!" she ran over a to a nearby desk and picked up several sheets of notebook paper and a pen. Upon returning to the others she stabbed the pencil through each piece of paper. "See... the papers are the universe and the pen is the Earth. Each hole in the paper is slightly different but they are all stacked atop eachother and sharing the same space."

"I.. think I understand. It's the same hole just... a different plane. I'm sorry I'm trying but this is just..."

He picked up a piece of paper, turned it over, examining the hole.

"So, it's the same hole just.. different because it's on a different sheet?" He didn't SOUND like he understood. His tone was totally bewildered.

"Uh... That's about as far as we're going to get today I think. Just let that sink in for a while. It'll get easier... and then it will get alot more complicated and then it will get not quite as complicated but at least you'll have adapted to it." she nodded. "For the time being, just try and make yourself comfortable here while we try to work out a way back home."

None of that was the explanation he would have used, but they worked. Frankly he was just glad someone else got it. "Yes, I think that's good for today."

"Good. I mean... Excuse me. Thank you both for... the information. I wish I was better at grasping all of this."

If Herminoe were here.... no. He pushed that thought away. That just made it worse.
