One good (eventual) sleep (and hours of work) after the previous entry, it finally dawned on me that I feel better. At last, I'd gotten rid of whatever nutsoid fever I had throughout the week. My body now reacts correctly to the outside world. Of course, that means that I've been enduring the same muggy weather you all have been...heheh.... Of course, my desire to recover led to me to fall asleep before visiting Mike for the return of Garage Night.
Thanks to those of you who provided advice about my trouble. If this crap happens to me again, I will assuredly get myself checked out. But yeah, an attitude change would still do me good. I have read at least one chapter of that yellow book since I've received it, so...that's a good start, right? (Now if I could just be a little less snippy with my wife, that would be great.)
The following day, I got a call from Amelia, who (like Matt, Adam, and Sarah) wanted to make sure I was feeling better. Then, I hung out with some friends for a DVD premiere of "The Magical Murder of Oz". It was the first actual group screening of one of my DVD's in two years, so it was nice to see my DVD/play work get a proper presentation (and witness the reactions of the audience/cast). Over a year's worth of toil had finally paid off with this DVD, which has thankfully become the best possible presentation of this show and its complicated history. It also feels nice to finally close the book on this particular play, the only one that MSI has done for over a year. (Of course, for those who didn't get to see it, I could make a copy for you.)
Then on Sunday, I auditioned (along with Cindy, Dinah, and Felisha) for "Oklahoma" in Haverling. I got to read two sections of dialog as Curly (yay) and two sections as Ali (boo), and sang parts of two songs as Curly, on which my singing wasn't too bad (better than I thought I'd be...hooray for not being sick anymore). Of course, there's another day of auditions, and maybe callbacks, so now I play the waiting game.
Meanwhile, word has spread that ELT's early-October show "Evita" is pushing up auditions from late August (weeks after the end of "Oklahoma") to mid-June (this month!). So, to do "Evita", I would possibly have to give up "Oklahoma", "Arsenic & Old Lace", and "Kiss Me Kate". While I can't guarantee that I'd do all three of those shows (though I'll certainly be in "Arsenic"), giving up all three for the sake of one is too much. Last year, I gave up two musicals for a show that never happened, so giving up a possible three shows is a bit much for me. After all, theater (plus movie nights with friends, Fridays with Mike, etc, etc) helps to pull me away from the (admittedly not always constant) negativity of work, and let me appreciate the concept of "other people". If I burn out, I'll cool off. (And if I freeze up, I'll see a doctor. I promise.)
