Airline worker sacked; claims unfair dismissal...

Apr 10, 2006 10:58

In yet another article regarding an employee being sacked so soon after the introduction of Australia's new Industrial Relations laws, we see the story of an airline employee claiming unfair dismissal. But is it??

In the first article, Ms Ogden claims she was fired for her appearance on the job, and that she looked "too Gothic".

Excuse me, but isn't that where the grooming manual comes in?? If I decide I want to cut my uniform skirt three inches shorter, or start wearing my hair in a manner contrary to the company 'image', then I would not profess surprise at being taken aside and spoken to.

At first glance, the story appears to be one poor employee vs the big airline company.

However, Jetstar had their own story to tell.

I leave it to you to decide if they were right to fire her. Just remember that when you see these 'worker sacked, shock, horror!' tales, that we usually only get one side of the story.
