Barbados (Oh Lucky 75!)

So, I got up at the butt crack of dawn for another sweaty day in paradise.

I went downstairs around 6am to check out and catch a cab to the airport. It was already a little warm, so I knew this day was going to be warm. I figured "I am going north - not by much but still north so maybe a tad cooler?".

FAT CHANCE!

I got to the airport and tried to spend the last of my TTs. I got a t-shirt that wasn't my favorite and some breakfast. The flight was pretty uneventful and we landed just a few minutes before 9am. I got some cash and a little 'tude from this Customs lady as well - 1 day? 1 day? Why do they always ask that? I am spending bloody cash in the country - back off! :)

Anyhow, I got a cab and headed to the hotel to drop off stuff. I got there and then headed down to B'town for a walk about town. Now I knew that it was rather small, but it was REALLY rather small. What was nice was that by having all the shops open, it had a much more inviting and interesting feel to it.

I walked about the town and to the craft market. I found a coin set but they had the nerve to want US$40 for a set that wasn't even a proof but "uncirculated" in the lame sleeve...mind you the value of the coins is about B$1.42 or about US$0.60. For the proof set, they wanted US$80!!!

Now, I like my proofs, but that was a little crazy for my taste. I hope that at the Jamaican money museum tomorrow I have a little better luck buying direct! :)

Anyhow, I toured around town and then headed just south of the city for lunch at "Lobster Alive" - the name references the state of your meal moments before selection...

There were some HUGE lobsters! I had enjoyed BBQ lobster in St. Martin, but decided to try something a little more classy-- Lobster Crepes!

After lunch, I headed toward the Garrison and the George Washington house (he stayed here as a teen with his brother who had TB). After walking around a bit up there, I grabbed the bus back to the hotel. I had a room with a killer sea view so sat on the deck and read my book (completed!) and listened to the waves crash... sadly I forgot my trunks (d'oh!) so no swimming...

After sunset, I headed back toward St. Lawrence Gap for dinner. I had to have the flying fish - it was pretty good! I had underestimated the distance and walked there...but took the bus back (much better choice!)

Anyhow, off to bed since I have a 9am flight to Kingston in the AM, mon!
