Iceland day 2 and 3

Sep 06, 2009 14:48

Well, after heading over to Skaftafell we hiked around the glaciar and then to see some waterfalls on the other side of the park. It was pretty lovely and definitely the highlight of the day. We then made our way back toward the West and hit some crazy rain around Vik. We had a quick lunch then made our way toward the Geysir (rather cool) and Gullfoss (the second leg of the Golden Circle). We had dinner at our hotel which was right by the waterfall.

This morning we got up early and had breakfast before venturing to the last part of the Golden Circle where the original Parliament was in viking time. That is also the place where the European and North American tectonic plates are ripping apart (albeit at 2mm per year) so there were decent sized sliced in the earth which was pretty amazing.

We then made our way to the capital, Reykjavik. We dropped off our stuff then headed downtown for some lunch and a bit of a walk about. It is the most urban we have seen (More used to a town with 1 gas station and 1 bulding... some of the "bigger" towns have population near 1000!)

Anyhow, going to walk around a bit more then head back. Tomorrow we go to the Blue Lagoon and then head home in the evening... nice (yet short) stay!!!
