The After Hours
1 1/2 oz vodka
1 oz Cointreau (triple sec will do in a pinch, but isn't as good)
3/4 oz sweetened lime juice
3/4 oz grenadine
Shake over ice and pour into a cocktail glass. Garnish with an orange twist or a Maraschino cherry.
I created this drink at Marlboro College near the end of a party at which I'd been making Cosmopolitans. I'd run out of cranberry juice, so I decided to see what would happen if used grenadine instead and altered the proportions a bit. This neon-colored drink was the result. Because of its color and the circumstances of its creation, I decided that After Hours evoked just the right image, of a late night at a chic downtown cocktail bar.
