I... cannot, for the life of me, deal with sarcasm.
Why is that a problem, you ask?
Because 70% of the population of the Institute for Japanese Studies apparently majors in sarcasm.
But I might be mistaken and it's just because everyone just gets along well with each other that they can banter without hurting...
It's something I have never been comfortable with because I can't tell whether someone is joking or actually meaning everything that is said.
If I'm talking to someone I've known for a very long time, I sometimes am able to tell, but it's hard. Really, really hard.
I like politeness. Really.
It's also kind of nagging me that talking to me, people actually try to not tease. And THAT is making me feel utterly left out.
What the fuck. This is so contradictory and stupid.
I think my problem might be that I would die of embarrassment if I teased someone only to be told "who do you think you are? Treat so-and-so with a little more respect, will you."
The probability that this will happen is kinda low, but, you know, I've never been one to stretch my luck...
*sighs*
Other than that, I love Japanese to death. We are currently dealing with politics vocabulary, which is kinda hard, but being able to read these texts makes me feel like I can actually DO something for a change.
Japanese History is incredibly interesting (and coincides rather spectacularly with the different eras that are based on Buddhism) and "East Asia in World History" actually makes history make SENSE!
Introduction to Computational Linguistics is rather complicated, but I like it so far =D and Introduction to Linguistics is, TADAAAA, grammar. FINALLY! =DDDDDDDDD It's awesome. I finally get the grammar lessons I so badly wanted in school. *g*
I'm celebrating my birthday this Sunday with my school friends. Because one of them moved to Munich and one to Ludwigsburg, we're going to be a group of six, which is... less than we usually are (duh), but I'm really looking forward to seeing them all again. It would be even better if the other two could join us, but well.
I hope we might be able to celebrate New Year's together...
This week, we also had some major luck with the weather. It started on Monday, making me VERY happy, and lasted until today. I wonder whether it'll last this weekend... Would be awesome =D
It was warm and not raining. I was even able to ride my bike without gloves! What! =D
friends,
