Oh, let me explain the WTF-ery that is "Where the Boys Are", an ostensibly light-hearted movie made in 1960, which was clearly A Different Time. It follows four college girls who go to Fort Lauderdale for spring break. One is forced to endure the company of an insufferable "jazz" musician with no social graces because nobody else finds her attractive because she plays field hockey. (I don't know if this is euphemism for something more interesting or not.) Another expresses a desire to be "a walking, talking baby machine" and attaches herself to a stereotypical Nice Guy who obviously hates all women and cheats on her with a squeaky-voiced burlesque dancer. Yet another agrees to meet her boyfriend in a hotel for sex and gets gang-raped by a bunch of his buddies. (Mind you, there was no indication that he was bad news before this happened, so she's definitely being punished for agreeing to sex.) The heroine is the only one who doesn't get completely screwed over and even her love interest struck me as really sleazy. The movie sort of diminishes my will to live, to tell the truth.
