Is it wrong that I want to rebuild third world countries? I think would be fun, and good for the people of said countries, to try and build them a simple to maintain, efficient green solution. Solar, wind, maybe even fuel cell power. A combined underground sewer electrical water and data system ( Read more... )

Well the key thing would be how little power they would need to begin with, being that they probably have none at the moment. So if we slowly add lighting, or super awesome fridges of some kind. Maybe even running water, which I imagine would be THE BAWM DOT CAWM if you've never had it ;p

But basically build a system that could supply a small neighbourhood, try to engineer it to handle houses that use 3-5x times the power they would use when we first got everything working. That way they could slowly adopt new gadgets. Like telephones, or low-power ultra-cheap computers.

I would have to learn a bunch about power generation and whatnot, but there are technologies out there right now that could work. Like those newly designed cheaper more efficient solar panels, or wind turbines, or methane burning things running off trash and sewage.

Actually, now that I think of it, screw electricity. We could wire for it, but the first and most important thing would be water and sewage. So maybe make a central station powered by solar and/or wind that would do water/sewage collection and pumping. Maybe use the excess power to power a cheap ruggedized computer that could be used to access the internet. That way they could learn things, maybe have doctors visits over the webcam, and talk to other people. Then as long as we define a simple way to hook components together we could upgrade parts. Get water pumping to homes or other faucets, then add sewage collection in the homes, then maybe power.

Did you know that 10 Vin Diesels can power a small third-world town?

Well I did.

But I forgot.

It is a very honorable idea to go and help people like that. I think a lot of people try to do things like this though and it's so difficult to come up with the money or the people. Still, it would be pretty awesome to do! You should talk to Traylo, Luka's brother, because I'm pretty sure he is involved in helping countries in need in some form or another and you guys could probably brainstorm ideas?

While you guys chat I'm going to work on cloning Vin Diesel.

It's a race.
