1. How old are you? 36 2. What gender are you? Male 3. At what age did you become interested in Japanese culture? When reading about linguistics, especially Noam Chomskys universal grammar 4. What specific area of Japanese culture did you first become interested in (anime, martial arts, etc)? Language 5. How and when did you first learn of this particular aspect of Japanese culture? NA 6. What interested you about this particular aspect of Japanese culture? How different it was to English and any european languages I knew 7. Are you still interested in this particular aspect of Japanese culture? Yes 8. Did this interest lead you to finding more aspects of Japanese culture that you found interesting? It lead to me living there for a year...yes. 9. What were these aspects? Everything. 10. How did you discover them? By living there. 11. What about them interested you the most? How different everything there is. 12. Why were you interested? Because I was in the middle of it all. 13. Is there a common thread linking any of your interests together (i.e. I watched an anime with a catgirl in it and then I became interested in Japanese cat breeds, etc)? Not really. 14. Have you pursued any of your interests in a higher education environment? No. 15. Has your interest prompted you to study the language? Thats where it started. 16. Have you gotten others interested in the culture? Yes, I think so, people who came to visit me in Tokyo. 17. By what avenue did you introduce them to the culture? They came to visit. 18. Has your interest led you to explore other east asian cultures? Not really, but I think I would understand them a bit more now. 19. How so? Because they're 'close' to Japanese culture in the same way we're 'close' to French culture.
