When it comes to working in the Metaverse, the workers are not as enthusiastic there as their superiors.
Playing with the metaverse is one of the most exciting things in the future of entertainment. However, working in the metaverse may not be so exciting, judging by the results of a new survey.
Metaverse workers: Will this become the norm?
Working from home has its advantages. You don't need to get out of your pajamas or take off your fluffy koala slippers. You don't have to put up with Alex from the bills lying on your desk telling you long boring stories about what they did with their lives over the weekend.
A distinctive feature of remote work is that you can work wherever your computer is located. So you can sit in a cafe and look at the sea while you work.
There is something else very cool about remote work. The idea of working in the metaverse. While it may take you a while to figure out how to sit on virtual chairs or get the right virtual fight for a sales meeting, it's a fun thought. Communicating with colleagues online in a virtual office with a waterfall and a zen garden can only be a good thing.
However, with all the cool things offered by the metaverse in the workplace, it can have negative consequences for employees.
ExpressVPN commissioned the study in collaboration with Pollfish. They interviewed 1,500 employees and 1,500 employers about working in the Metaverse.
Technological progress has increased productivity
As remote work spreads, both employees (90%) and employers (88%) agree that technological advances have led to increased productivity. And they feel more connected to their colleagues. Employees say that video conferences (27%) allow them to feel the most connected and involved.
Employers also consider videoconferencing (32%) to be the best method. But employers also like the idea of working in the Metaverse (17%) as the best way to stay in touch. Only 9% of employees think about the Metaverse the same way.
Employers say they are enthusiastic (66%) and optimistic (54%) about working in the Metaverse. But employees say that it causes anxiety (24%), suspicion (20%), and they feel that it is confusing (17%).
As for workplace surveillance, employees say they are concerned about three things. They are concerned about tracking their location in real time (51%). They worry about real-time screen monitoring (50%). And they worry about time accounting (47%).
