The 000.eth domain of the Ethereum Naming Service (ENS) was purchased on July 3 for 300 ETH (US$315,000), making it the second largest sale after paradigm.eth, measured in both ETH and dollars.
According to network data, this name was sold by an OpenSea user named EtheOS. He received this name ENS in June 2020 from another address that he may own. He first placed this name ENS in September 2021 for 100 ETH (about $ 300,000 at that time), and then re-placed it in January of this year, but for 500 ETH (about $ 1.6 million at that time). Then he put it up for sale again in March. Thus, the proposal lay for three months before it was accepted.
The user who sold the name ENS also owns several other NFTs, including another name ENS kimjonghyung.eth.
ENS domains are human-readable addresses designed to replace wallet addresses when sending blockchain transactions. Instead of the cryptocurrency user having to copy and paste his address in the blockchain, he can use such names to choose where to send money. ENS names are also non-interchangeable tokens (NFT) and can be sold on NFT trading platforms such as OpenSea.
Up to this point, the biggest sale of the ENS name was the sale of paradigm.eth, which was bought in October 2021 for 420 ETH (about $1.5 million at that time). Despite the name, the cryptocurrency investment company Paradigm reportedly denied making the purchase. In addition, there were several other signs indicating that it could be a hoax, although quite expensive.
