As luck would have it, we finally found the place with no street sign and the 'website'which was of almost no use at all should be updated or just shut down! The guy at the counter procedes to tell us that there is no discount for having a group, also no discount for having a college ID(both of which are clearly stated on the site). So we get in and Mike and Pat rent the guns, and armor and whatnot, and the rest of us gear-up and load up with Paint to play. It turns out, none of us have ever played indoor speedball with inflatable bunkers. The competition was fierce...probably about 12 other people all with insane guns...probably at least double the cost of my A5. Dave from Capital Paintball was there and he was a good asset to have on our team, the few games we had him. 250f/ps was the regulation velocity for the guns, but I'm pretty sure that not everyone was following that. I can honestly say that I was one of the bravest players at the entire facility. I wore sneakers, black swishy material pants which are paper thin, a skin tight swat t-shirt with extra short sleeves, and my mask. Not only did I have bare skin exposed for the length of both arms, but the clothes I had were not layered and pretty much the lightest layer of clothes of anyone else there. These inflatable bunkers are definetly hard to get used to. The first game I got nailed in the first part of the game as well as Pat, Kyle, and Mike. Later on in another game I was on the opposing team against Pat, Mike, Kyle and the other people there, I made some good advances early on and was able to take out Mike with a few mid shots and a crotch shot, but directly after getting Mike, Kyle popped up from the bunker in front of my about 15 feet away and got me twice on my right arm. Both of the shots he hit me with drew blood because he was so close and I had nothing protecting me. Now I've got some battle wounds! So this got my adrenaline pumping because I'm now bleeding with paint shells stuck inside the open welts. We played a lot of games because most of them were quick games in about 5 minutes or under and pretty much back to back. Once the game was over you just cleaned off the most recent paint so its not showing up as much, fill your paint or whipe your mask, and your back in the next game in about 2 minutes. Towards the end of the night when some of the others left the games got much better. People played fair and the refs were better, also it seemed like better matches as far as players because its such a small course and it was just too many people for the previous games. There was an excellent snake bunker formation extending almost all of the length of the field off to one side. This bunker alone would provide constant bunker cover as well as some ideal places to sneak behind enemy defenses and turn the game around. I took full advantage of this snake bunker for a few games and dominated the opposing team. If you are fast enough in the first 6 seconds of the game to get to one side of the field and take cover, then you pretty much have an advantage over some other players. I was able to do this several times reaching the snake bunker in the beginning of the game. One of the times I reached the snake bunker and Pat was at the other end trying to get around the large corner bunker into the snake, but I was already more than halfway down the snake before he reached the corner and both of us popped out of the side for a second and saw the other person. Because I'm using a flatline on my A5, I was able to poke the tip of my gun towards the edge of the bunker without exposing myself to a hit, and just fired out a few rounds, the flatline curved the ball perfectly and it went right around both the snake and the corner bunker and nailed Pat! Another game later on at almost the end of the night it was 2 on 2. Mike and I were on one team while Pat and Kyle were the other team. I took Kyle out in the first 3 seconds of the game and Pat was left, so Mike greatly advanced on Pat's leftside on one part of the field while I ran straight up the middle behind a standing bunker and distracted Pat's right side. Needless to say, Pat didn't last too much longer either, however, Kyle was more disapointed because of how quickly he got hit(I'd say he ran roughly 7 or 8 feet before I got him in the shoulder). One more note on the snake bunker...I can't get over how effective it was! I loved that...I played a key role in the winning of 3 games near the end of the night because of the snake. Its almost waist high and zig-zags across the entire left side of the field. Once I got to the side of the field, I just slid on my side into the snake so that no one else knew I had reached it. Then you simply crawl around near the zig-zag until you can see behind the rest of the enemies bunkers, they never know where you came from or what hit them cause by then your either on their side or behind them, rather then getting hit from the front where they know who hit them. All in all I'd say it was a pretty good turnout despite some of the issues. Summer is approaching so the woods games are going to be in season!
