For the last week I've been having a carpal tunnel flareup. For me, usually, this means that my thumb goes numb. It's annoying - VERY annoying over a long period of time - but doesn't really make much of an impact on what I do other than me chewing on my thumb a lot because it feels like I have pins and needles in it. If I don't knit, minimize time spent drawing, and don't sleep on it wrong then it generally goes away.

Well, not this time. =P

By friday last week I actually dropped several reams of paper at work because I didn't have enough gripping strength in my thumb to pick up a heavy stack of 200 sheets of tabloid sized cardstock all at once. Again, annoying, but I just had to remind myself to use both hands and secure my grip before lifting.

By saturday "numb" was being translated by my nervous system as "my hand is freezing!" - not actually the case, circulation was fine, but I kept wrapping my hand up in my sleeves because it felt 'cold'.

And then yesterday I went to pick up a small salad plate out of the sink and something in my thumb went pop-crackle, the whole thing spasmed, and the pain shot up my arm. >_<

Right now we're back to pins and needles numb in the pad of my thumb, with occasional spasms that shoot across the back of my hand and up my arm. It is, of course, my dominant right hand. =P I have an appointment with my doctor in an hour - I'm really hoping they can give me some kind of anti-inflammatory to quiet down whatever tendon has pressure on it. Maybe a brace? ugh, I don't know - this has always gone away on it's own before. =P Worst body design, I swear. Who let this out of testing?

EDIT - ok, so, have naproxen for the inflammation and an awesome stylish black brace that goes from the hand up to my elbow, and has this cool lacing down the side in addition to the usual velcro. wear at all times unless in the shower. take the naproxen like antibiotics. come back to the doc when i'm done and have hopefully soothed the tendon i pissed off.

...typing in this is not easy, and i have writing i need to do. hrm. dragon dictation might be my new best friend.
