Let's talk about Red Alert 3.

I finished the Soviet campaign today, and it was great fun. You gotta kind of respect a game where one of the villains has a secret volcano fortress on Easter Island that launches troops out of cannons built into the statues.

The Soviets still play a lot like they did in Red Alert 2. They definitely have more naval power, but I can't even remember naval combat being in Red Alert 2. Also, Kirovs are much better now, as they move slightly faster and seem to take a lot more punishment.

It sort of confuses me that they made such a big deal out of casting Gina Carano as Natasha when she never shows up in the campaign as far as I can tell.

Anyway, I started on the Empire of the Rising Sun campaign and am not having quite as much fun. The Soviet campaign was geared toward destroying everything in your path with extreme prejudice, which is fun. The Empire campaign seems to be all about protecting shit, and it's really annoying. Protecting three separate things with only a handful of units while the enemy has about a bazillion is not my idea of fun. And to make matters worse, they send me engineers to repair these structures I'm supposed to be protecting, and they appear right as the enemy forces drive by and get slaughtered.

In short: it's more fun to kill things indiscriminately than it is to protect things.

In other news, spring break starts tomorrow. I hate our spring break. It's way too early.
