I was just on my YouTube page (
http://www.youtube.com/user/mazolauk ), as I'd had an email notifying me of a new message. I thought it would be the usual "thank you for adding my video" message, but for once, it wasn't...
One of the videos I had uploaded was Love Is the Slug by a band from the UK called We've Got A Fuzzbox and We're going to Use It (I'll refer to them as Fuzzbox from here on in ;-)). I've been surprised by the amount of people who have "come out" as Fuzzbox fans, since I uploaded a couple of the videos, as they were not particularly successful, more of a cult punk band...That is until the record company decided to make it Vix's band (the lead singer). The producers methodically stripped nearly all of the other band member's performances from the decidedly non-punk 2nd album, which was commercially successful, but spelled the beginning of the end to the friendships between Vix and the other 3 girls (Tina and sisters Jo and Maggie).
Anyways, back to this message - it was from a guy called Nicholas Small, who just happens to have been the director of this particular video. I've been asked to send him a copy, as he is currently trying to set up a portfolio of his work. I think he was rather surprised that anyone had a full length copy of this video. :-D
I just thought I'd share, as this is about as high up the fame ladder as it gets with me ;-)
If you're interested enough to check out the video for Love Is The Slug, you can find it on my You Tube page, or just do a search for Fuzzbox. It might not be your cup of tea musically, but it's a damn funny video. (You have to remember that the drummer is playing the fuzzy bass, and the guitarist is not really playing the drums ;-) - they were admittedly crap at their instruments, but they weren't that crap!)
ps. update - I've just been asked to send him another of their old videos, Rules And Regulations. It turns out that, despite him owning the rights to the videos, the evil that is WEA basically shafted him (and by all accounts the members of Fuzzbox) when they released a greatest hits package last year. Not only did they not ask his permission to use the videos, but they could not even bestow him the courtesy of a copy of the dvd... Not nice.
