Well, the first 7 weeks of school have come and gone, and so far so good. I am teaching both World History and World Geography. I have no idea if they are actually learning anything, but I'm having fun. Actually I know a few of them aren't learning a damn thing, as they don't do a damn thing in class. I have this one kid in 1st period who does absolutely nothing. I gave him a 50 last six weeks as we can't give anything lower than a 50 during the first and fourth 6 weeks. So far this six weeks he has a 17 gpa. A freakin 17!!!! I have a girl in fifth who is actually trying and yet she has a 12. That's just sad. This girl is going to end up working at Chico's and it kills me to say that, but it's true.
The sad thing is I feel I'm not doing things as well as I wanted to do them. It's mainly Lecture, notes, worksheet, letcture, notes worksheet. The sad thing is, most of these kids don't have the intelligent or ethics to allow me to run class the way I'd like to run it. They can't take notes, they refuse to read the chapter ahead of time, etc... So, until I get either better kids or a different job it'll be Lecture, Notes, Worksheet. I am nervous though about them taking the TAKS. I would be so freakin upset if I have a low TAKS average.
I still want to go to grad school, but UTEP doesn't offer a damn thing in the field I want to study. Actually, there are several fields I would like to study (all in the area of history of course), but UTEP offers nothing in them. I would get stuck studying the History of the American/Mexican Border and I don't want to do that. I don't give a shit about the Border, or "how it divides people" or any of that shit. I truly would love to get back into Russian History but they don't even have a proffessor who specializes in Russia on the staff anymore. They are becoming specialized in Latin America/Mexican/Border history and you know my feelings on that shit.
So, I guess I have to hope Boo gets her Ph.D then gets hired at U of A or UNM or UT Austin so I can have a chance to freakin study what I want to study. In the mean time I am going to start studying the language again. With the Internet I can probably access Russian Language newspapers online and perhaps even get some free streaming video. That would help with my reading and writing skills. I never had any trouble with pronunciation and was often said I spoke like a native.
Time to go...
