So this morning, Himself having slept on it, we were go for OMG HOUSE. I went to the property manager's website to get the online application started, and the way you do that is by clicking an "apply now!" button from the individual listing. So I went to the listings. And right at the top was - a house that could be even better.
OMG HOUSE, built in 1995, is a very nice but mildly low-personality house on a cul-de-sac that is itself very nice, but is adjacent to a neighborhood that is a little less nice than what we'd choose. The house is actually a lot bigger than we need - our goal is more space than we could have in his current place, but OMG HOUSE is enormous. And we couldn't understand why in all our searches we didn't find anything meeting our requirements here in the area where we both already live, where practically everyone we know lives too. So OMG HOUSE is in a merely-adequate location and makes Himself start to feel like a yuppie in a McMansion.
BUT WAIT HOUSE is half again the size of his current place and still much smaller than OMG HOUSE. (Really: OMG HOUSE is too big.) It is a turn-of-the(-20th)-century Victorian with personality galore and maybe a mile from where I live now. Right here in our present zip code. BUT WAIT, we said - can we see that one before we make a firm decision about the first one?
Of course we can, says the property manager. But listen: being a very old house, it lacks air conditioning.
/o\
We're going to see it tomorrow and talk about what (if any) steps the owner is thinking about taking toward rigging the place for a/c, and when. I am prepared to love it and be persuaded that it will be coolable in the summer, in which case, great! And if we don't love BUT WAIT HOUSE or it's not going to be cooled this summer, we'll go with OMG HOUSE.
Someone put in an application for OMG HOUSE this afternoon.
/o\
We put in our application this afternoon also and can change it to BUT WAIT HOUSE if we want. A credit check is a credit check. And if everyone's credit and employment work out okay and the owner has to choose between us and the other applicants, they might pick us - I understand that the other people who are interested are looking to move in July and have a dog, and we would be moving much sooner and have no pets, both of which the owners would prefer - but they might not. Or the other people might make three times what we make. Or there might be even more other people. Bottom line: we might look at BUT WAIT HOUSE, decide we can't live there, and not get OMG HOUSE, and be nowhere.
My wiggins, let me show you them.
