You know what would be a good question? Favorite episode of your least favorite show.
My least favorite episode of The West Wing is "The Long Goodbye", which is one of the best, but it doesn't go, do you see what I mean? It's marvelously written and beautifully done (it's up there with Allison Janney's best work [and I always enjoy Matthew Modine], and that old man, damn), and it's nothing to do with why I watch the show.
I'm a little interested by that, though, because I adore the Buffy episode "The Body", which is in a way very similar, right? Powerful people stymied by situations and events beyond their control. (Put another way: our parents die, and we can't save them.) In fact, I often feel like the bit right at the end of "The Body" where a monster of some kind attacks Dawn and Buffy has to fight it would have been better edited out. Not always. But I wonder why it is that I love the Buffy episode almost without qualification, but I love the West Wing episode for what it is, rather than as an episode of my show. Huh.
