Tim stopped by the baseball diamond to watch the Little League game. Every once in a while he would stop by the park to watch the children play. He didn't really know why he did this, Babs said it was a way of self torture. Constantly showing himself the one thing he had denied himself so many years ago.
“Looks like they're having fun,” a voice said from behind him.
Tim looked behind to see Roy Harper standing there. Hands in pocket, smile lines prominent on his face, his red hair turned white. With a bit self conscience Tim ran his fingers through his own hair that liberally peppered with gray. “Roy.”
Roy walked closer and sat down at a picnic bench, motioning for Tim to join him. It took a whole minute for Tim to work up the nerve to sit down with Roy, his eyes staying firming on the baseball diamond.
Tim could feel Roy's eyes on him and after a while he felt the brush of fingers at the back of his neck and a whispered, “Missed you little bird.”
Tim tensed and shifted away from Roy while saying, “Roy don't.”
Roy sighed. “Why? After all this time you're still going to hold yourself to some stupid . . .”
“It's not stupid!” Tim said as he turned to Roy only to meet bright green eyes. Green eyes that he never really stopped dreaming about. Without another word Tim stood and walked away only to have Roy follow.
“Your not a monk living is some monastery Tim. Hell even Connor has more of a love life than you.”
“You think this is just about me not having sex Roy? Not making a family of my own? It's more than that. It always have been,” Tim said as he stalked across the park.
“You're right. It's about you being scared,” Roy said as he followed.
“No! I just got tired of being hurt. I got tired of watching people I care about get hurt. I got tired of watching people I love die.” Tim said whirling around to face Roy. “I - I just couldn't do it anymore. This is safer.”
“Is it?” Before Tim could move away, Roy swept him up in his arms giving him a searing kiss. Before Tim could think about it he was fisting Roy's shirt to draw him closer and deepening the kiss. Then realization dawned and Tim shoved Roy away.
“Yes. Yes this is better,” Tim as he walked away walling up his heart again.
