“Excuse me ma'am,” Hal said as he side stepped a harried looking woman with an arm load of bags. If the woman made a reply, Hal didn't hear as it was swallowed up by the crowd of holiday shoppers. Hal decided that he hated the mall, and he decided he really hated the mall the days following Thanksgiving. It was too crowded, too noisy, and too many people trying to get to the same place at the same time.
Hal had decided though that he wouldn't put off finding Kyle's Christmas present. He wanted something special for Kyle, something that said how much he cared for Kyle. Hal knew he wasn't the best boyfriend in the world, that there were times when Kyle worried that Hal wasn't taking their relationship seriously. Hal wanted to find something that showed Kyle how much he cared about him, that there was no one that Hal wanted to be with more than Kyle.
So far Hal had bought a set of paint brushes that Kyle had admired on his last trip home, and a green shirt that matched Kyle's eyes, but nothing really screamed undying love to Hal. Nothing seemed special enough for their first Christmas together. Nothing seemed special enough for Kyle.
Maybe he should call Dinah for help.
Just as he was about to give up and abandon his shopping spree, a flash of light drew Hal's eye to a store front. Fighting through crowd, Hal makes to the window display and a slow smile spread across Hal's face as he gazed at the display. It was perfect, Hal wondered why he hadn't thought of it before. Well actually he could have thought of a dozen reasons why he hadn't thought of it before, but now those reasons seemed stupid.
As Hal made his way into the jewelry store, he thought this was the perfect way to show Kyle how he felt.
