here. Halloween was one of those holidays that Tim didn't seem to think much of. As Robin all he saw was the dark and dangerous side of it, and as a kid it wasn't much fun going trick or treating with the nanny. It wasn't until he moved to Metropolis with Roy and Kon that he got to see the fun side of it.
Halloween, it seemed was a big deal for Roy and Lian. They spent weeks planning the decorations and picking out the perfect pumpkin to carve. Throw in Kon and Chris and Tim couldn't help get swept up in the fun. They went to carnivals and haunted houses, had a monster movie marathon, and destroyed the kitchen having a pumpkin carving contest.
Lian and Chris had both been adamant that everyone dress up for trick or treating, even Krypto had gotten roped into the masquerade by Chris discovering that with some black shoe polish, Krypto made a wonderful Pongo from 101 Dalmatians.
Though Krypton's last dog looked less than enthused about the costume choice. Krypto kept turning sorrowful eyes toward Kon as the kids covered him in spots.
Tim looked in the mirror that hung in the dining room, he adjusted the hunting hat on his head and the cape more comfortable on his shoulders. He chuckled as he placed the pipe between his teeth and regarded the image of Sherlock Holmes in the mirror, Tim thought it was a rather fitting costume for himself, even if Roy was still pouting about Tim turning down the Maid Marion costume choice he had picked out.
“Hey Robin Hood,” Tim called as he turned from the mirror and headed into the living room. “All ready to go?”
“Are you sure I can't just use my own arrows?” Roy asked as he examined the fake arrows that came with his costume.
“You want to bring real arrows trick or treating tonight? Don't you think the other parents might say something about that?”Tim asked with a smile.
“Feel practically naked with these things,” Roy muttered as he shoved them in the quiver.
“I'm sure Kon will appreciate the image,” Tim said as he bent over and kissed Roy. “Got the trick or treat bags out?”
“Yep.”
“Working flashlights?”
“Yep.”
“The map with the trick or treat route?”
“The map with . . . please tell me your joking?” Roy asked with a pained expression.
Tim flashed a cheeky smile as he headed toward Lian's room. “You'll never know now will you.”
“Lian. Chris. You guys ready to go?”Tim called as he poked his head in Lian's room. Lian was standing in front of her mirror, putting on her mask. This year Lian had decided to be Robin - modeling her costume after Tim's. She spent months designing it, insisting that everything had to be just right. If some of the items in her utility belt were a little too real, well Tim was willing to blame Uncle Dick for that. Lian spun around, a big smile on her face, “What do you think Uncle Tim?”
“I think that I might be in danger of losing my job,” Tim said as he picked Lian up and spun her around.
Chris rolled his eyes from his place on Lian's bed. “It took her forever to get ready,”
“Just because my costume is more than just a tee shirt, jeans, and boots. He's not even wearing a mask Uncle Tim,” Lian said as she stuck her tongue out at Chris. Tim smiled warmly down at Chris. Chris had decided to dress up as his big brother this year. So with a pair of jeans and and a black tee shirt with a red S-shield logo on it, Chris was all ready to be Superboy.
“Conner doesn't wear a mask,”Chris said as he stuck his own tongue out at Lian. “Do you like it Uncle Tim?”
“Of course I do. It's one of my favorite costumes.” Tim said smiling, holding out his hand for Chris to take. With Lian on his hip, Chris holding his hand and a much happier Krypto following them (apparently the kids had bribed a better mood out of him by giving him half a box of dog treats) Tim lead them out to the living room. “I think we're all set, right?” he asked Roy.
“All we need now is our Boy of Steel,” Roy said as he shifted the quiver on his back.
Tim nodded as he sat Lian down, “He's still getting ready?” Kon had disappeared into their bedroom an hour ago to change into his costume and hadn't come out yet.
“I don't think there's a mirror that Kon's met that he didn't like,” Roy said with a chuckle.
Tim shook his head and headed to their bedroom, knocking on the door. “Kon, it's time to go.”
“Uh . . .why don't you guys go ahead without me. I'll catch up.” came Kon's answer.
Tim frowned as he reached for the door handle, just to find it locked. “Kon stop playing around. The kids are ready to go.”
“ I . . I can't come out right now.” Kon said hesitantly.
“What? Kon what's going on? Are you okay?” Tim asked jangling the door handle again.
“I'm fine.”
“Then why won't you come out?”
Tim heard Kon sigh as he unlocked the door. “Okay, I'm coming out. But you have to swear not to laugh.”
Tim frowned. “Now why would I . . .” Tim stopped talking as the door swung open and revealed Kon dressed up in a giant chicken outfit.
“Oh Kon.”
“It was all the costume shop had left. This and Raggedy Andy,” Kon said with a blush covering his face.
“I told you not to put going to the costume shop off,” Tim managed to say without laughing in his boyfriend's face. Of course he couldn't keep from smiling.
Kon frowned and turned around back into the room intend to take the costume off. “That does it. I'm not going.”
Tim bit his lip as he reached for Kon and pulled him out into the hallway. “You can't do that. The kids are waiting for us all to go. You promised Chris.” He said as he dragged a reluctant Kon behind him, failing at keeping a random chuckle away.
“Your sleeping on the couch for a month.” Kon threatened Tim as they got to the living room. When they got to the living room they were met with a moment of silence Then Roy, Lian and Chris all doubled over in laughter, the arrows falling out of Roy's quiver. Even Krypto seemed to see the humor in it all if the rapid beating of his tail meant anything.
Kon frowned, “That does it. I'm not going.” he said as he turned around to go back to the bedroom.
“You can't! “ Chris said as he ran up and wrapped his arms around Kon's waist. “It's a great costume, and you promised that you'd go,” he said turning a sad face up toward his older brother.
Lian ran over and added her arms to Kon's waist. “We can give you a cape. Cape's fix everything.”
At that point Roy gave up trying to stay standing and just drop to the ground laughing. “S-S-Super Chicken!”
“Tell him to stop laughing Tim,” Kon said
“Roy stop laughing,” Tim said automatically.
Kon rolled his eyes, “Thanks that helped a lot.”
“You're welcome.”
Roy managed to calm down enough to pick up his arrows and stand up. “Sorry Kon. Really. I think you should add a cape, it'll cover up a lot,” he said snickering.
“Really not helping now,” Tim said as he stepped up and wrapped an arm around Kon's shoulders. “It's Halloween Kon. It's a time for dress up, make believe, and to laugh at ourselves.”
“Easy for you to say, Mr. Holmes you and Robin Hood over there won't be laughed out of the room.” Kon muttered.
“It's for the kids,” Tim wheedled, kissing Kon on the cheek.
“They're kissing again,” Chris said rolling his eyes. Lian nodded and rolled her eyes as well.
“Alright, alright, I can be a good sport,” Kon said as he kissed Tim back. “Go get me a cape kids. If I'm going to be the talk of the town, I'm pulling out all the stops.”
With a whoop, Lian and Chris went running back to Lian's room with Krypto hot on their tail.
Roy stepped up and wrapped his arms around Kon from the other side, “You know, I've always thought I was a leg man, but now I think I'm leaning more to being a wing man.”
“That does it, neither one of you are touching me for a month,” Kon threatened.
