The young man watched as the screens before him showed a slick black plane fly low over the frozen tundra and into the hidden entrance of the Fortress of Solitude's hanger. He watched as three men got out of the plane, his attention drawn to the youngest. The uniform had changed, gone was the green and the bare arms. The face had changed too - more serious, more guarded.

He swallowed past the lump in his throat and wiped his sweaty palms on his jeans. Footsteps behind him drew his attention and he turned around to see Superman standing in the doorway. “They're here.”

The young man nodded as motioned at the monitors. “Yeah, saw them fly in. Batman looks pissed.”

“That's just his default mode,” Superman said with a smile.

The young man returned the smile and Superman placed a reassuring hand on his shoulder and guided him out of the room. “Everything will be fine. I promise.”

Superman lead the way to the hanger to where the three men were waiting. Superman strode toward his guests with a warm, welcoming smile on his face. His young companion hanging back in the shadows of the hallway for the time being - not being sure of the greeting he would receive.

“Batman, Nightwing, Robin, thank you for coming,”Superman said pleasantly. “How was your flight here?”

“What was so important that we had to meet here?” Batman asked cutting through whatever pleasantries Superman had planned, not missing the figure hiding in the shadows in the hallway.

If anything, Superman's smile only got wider and warmer, “A family member has been returned to us.”

He motioned for the person in the hallway to come out. With a hesitant step Superboy stepped out into the hanger. Dressed in his black T-shirt, blue jeans, and boots, he stood a little taller than before, a little broader in the shoulders, but him none the less. “Hey guys.”

An audible gasp was heard from the three Gotham Guardians. Batman turned a glare at Superman, Nightwing took a step closer to Robin, putting an arm around his little brother's shoulders, as the youngest looked at his returned best friend. After a moment of making sure Robin would be alright, Nightwing turned and embraced the young hero. “Welcome back Superboy,”

“Thanks Wing,” Superboy said returning the hug.

“How long has he been here?” Batman asked

“Little over a year. I used the same methods to bring him back that was used to bring me back when I 'died'” Superman said

“And you didn't think to tell anyone about it?”

“I didn't want to instill false hope,” Superman said as he glanced over at Robin. “I didn't know if it would work or not.”

“So you decided to experiment a little. What were you thinking?” Batman said with a glare.

“I was thinking I wanted my son back.” Superman said matching Batman's look.

“Well at least now I know why I came along,” Nightwing muttered as he walked over to the quarreling heroes.

Robin and Superboy stood a little bit away from their arguing elders, looks of apprehension on both of their faces.

“Tim?” Kon finally asked tentatively.

Tim searched Kon's face, still looking as if he didn't believe it "But . . .you're dead." he whispered.

"I got better." Kon whispered back.

Then Tim relaxed, a smile lighting up his face. "You must have, if you're quoting Monty Python at me."

A similar one found it's way to Kon's face, the lump in his throat gone. Simultaneously they reached for each other, arms wrapping around each other in a tight embrace, neither one wanting to let go. If either one noticed the older heroes stop their conversation and leave the room they didn't show it.

“You changed your uniform,” Kon said as he breathed into Tim ear.

Tim nodded. “After you . . . it didn't seem right . . . I needed to do something,” he said feebly.

Kon pulled back far enough to look at Tim's face. He saw the pain and the loneliness that never seemed to totally leave Tim's face anymore and nodded his understanding. Kon pulled Tim back against his chest, leaning his chin on Tim's shoulder. “So does this mean we're going steady?”

Tim's laughter vibrated against Kon's chest, he tightened his arms around Kon, “I guess in a way it does, if you want it to.”

Kon cupped Tim's face with his right hand, his thumb tracing Tim's bottom lip. “I never wanted anything else.”

They don't remember who started the kiss, only that they were. Needing each other more than anything else. Only when breathing for Tim became an issue did they part. Kon looked down in Tim face and instead of the the pain and loneliness from before, he saw happiness and love.
