Part 1

Jason leaned back against the wall to his cell as he stared out the barred window. It wasn't exactly how he had planned this trip to go. A quick trip to see Connor under the guise of a hunting trip with Tim in tow so Bruce wouldn't get suspicious. The King of Gotham was firmly against anything to do with Star City. His and King Oliver's barely hidden feud had almost reached legendary status, even the silver tongued Kal El had not been able to soften either man's stance.

Jason doubted that either would be to terribly pleased to know of Jason and Connor's . . . it wasn't a relationship. Jason refused to identify it as that. That lead to far more complicated thoughts that Jason was quite adept at avoiding. At least Jason was right about the reaction. Oliver flew into a rage and had Jason dragged to a cell in his dungeons and proclaimed Jason to be beheaded at dawn.

He could just see Bruce's disappointed look.

If he was lucky he'd find a way to escape somewhere between his cell and the chopping block. Perhaps Tim would have heard about it by now and his younger brother would have figured out a way to help out. He may be on the little side but Tim was good in a fight.

The door to his cell opening brought Jason out of his thoughts. Two guards came in, one throwing Jason's sword to him. “Prince Jason of Gotham, on orders of King Oliver you are to be set free.”

Jason raised an eyebrow as he strapped on his blade and followed the guards into the hallway. A slow smile spread across his face as he Connor standing in the hall waiting. “Connor.”

“You may go,” Connor said waving the guards away. “I will see to the Prince.” The guards gave Jason a wary look but did as they were told leaving the two alone.

As soon as there was no sign of the guards, Jason pushed Connor against the nearest wall and kissed him soundly. Connor gasped in surprise at the kiss, but soon returned it a hand slipping up to tangle in Jason's hair. “You did it. You convinced the old man to back off didn't you?” Jason breathed against Connor's lips when they broke the kiss.

“No,” Connor said as he pushed Jason back and started walking down the hall without waiting for Jason to follow. “Though I did try to make my Father see reason, it wasn't my voice that swayed him.”

“Well it wasn't your brother that for certain,” Jason said as he eyed Connor's somewhat distant manner. “Wait. . . do we have to get married or something now do we?”

That got a sharp laugh out of Connor as he stopped to wait for Jason to catch up. “Heavens no. You've been banned from the city. You are to get on your horse and leave, never to come back.”

Jason echoes Connor's laugh, “Well that's not surprising. But really . . .what did you say to pacify Queen?”

“As much as I wish I had been able to . . . it was not I who offered the solution,” Connor said, his eyes firmly locked ahead of him not looking at Jason. “It was your brother Tim.”

“Tim? What could he have possible done?”

“A trade needed to be made. A life to be given so you may be freed.” Connor said slowly.

Fear pooled in the pit of Jason's stomach as he grabbed Connor's shoulder. “No. He's not . . .not my . . .Queen can't do that. He's just a kid!”

“No Jason,” Connor soothed. “He will not be taking your place on the block, But he is giving up his life for yours.”

“ . . .enslavement . . to Queen.”

“To my brother Roy,”

“No! No I won't let that happen!” Jason snarled as he blindly started heading down the hall. “I'm bringing him home.”

“Jason! Jason you can't!” Connor said as he grabbed Jason and pushed him against the wall. “They've sent for J'onn. The ceremony will be done in a couple hours. If you try to interfere you'll be put to death and Tim will still be a slave and you'd risk war between Star City and Gotham.”

“So I'm just to let my stupid brother become someone's bed warmer?”

Connor backhanded Jason and growled, “Do not disrespect the sacrifice your brother makes and and the intent of mine.”

Jason drew a deep breath and then sagged against the wall, “ . . .this is my fault . . . I just wanted . . what am I going to tell Bruce and Dick?”

“Shh,” Connor said taking Jason's hand in his and squeezing it. “I'm sorry Jason, so sorry. We have to go now. Father wants you gone before the ceremony starts. Please Jason.”

Silently the pair made their way through the palace and through the gate where Jason's horse was waiting. He took the reins and ran a hand down his mount's neck. “Watch over him for me Connor.”

“My brother will not . . .”

“Tim's my brother and I'm leaving him here, alone. Tell me you wouldn't ask the same of me if our places were switched?”

Connor nodded and pulled Jason in for a kiss. “I will, now you have to go.”
