The message that had brought Steve to the Hall of Justice made Steve's stomach turn to knots. The look on Superman's face made the knots turn to ice. “What is it? What's happened?”
“Steve . . I . . . It was Circe . . .Diana . . . just come with me . . .please,”
Superman had barely turned before Steve had rushed passed him, finding his own way to the medical wing. When he arrived he found Diana asleep on a bed. Her face was pale, her arms and ribs were heavily bandaged.
“ . . Angel,” Steve whispered as he took her hand. “My Angel.”
A soft sigh escaped Diana as her eyes fluttered open. “ . . Steve.”
“I'm here,” Steve whispered. “You're going to be okay.”
“Maybe not this time Steve, Circe's spell . . “
“Doesn't mean a damn,” Steve said. “That psycho which can't touch you.”
“You always have such faith in me,” Diana said with a small smile.
“Always. You're my Angel.”
“There are limits to everything though. If Circe is able to succeed I do not fear death.” Diana said softly as she cupped his cheek with one hand.
“Diana I love you,” Steve pleaded. “Don't leave me. You can't leave”
“Never,” Diana whispered. “I will never leave you. I will always be here,” Diana said as she raised her other hand and pressed it to Steve's heart.
Tenderly Steve cradled Diana to him, pressing his forehead against hers, “You'll have to forgive me if I say that's not enough Angel.”
“Going to battle Hades for me my love?” Diana asked in a hushed tone.
“I'll take on Hades, Zeus, the whole of Olympus if I have to.” Steve said, the corners of his lips quirking up a little.
Superman and Batman stood quietly outside Diana's room. “Do you think she'll be okay?” Clark asked worried.
“With him by her side? Diana will be just fine.” Bruce declared softly.
